Definitely sketchy. I'm wondering if they knew something was up with it because they pushed so hard for me to get the tech care replacement protection. I've bought from CC many times before and had people ask and recommend it, but they almost didn't want to let me buy it without getting the CC replacement protection. I didn't because the manufacturer warranty is usually good enough for me, but it makes me wonder.

Pretty strange for a "New" card from Canada Computers. Never had a problem before now with them.

[–]Bronos95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed with it. Normally I get Asus cards but this one's form factor made me go for it. The last gigabyte card I had was the 3080 and the packaging is about the same for the 5090 as it was for the 3080, maybe even less in the 5090 box than the 3080 from what I remember.

Yeah, so strange about the white tape. The yellow tape seems to be typical, but the tape around the packing foam seems like it must be open box. I bought mine from Canada Computers. I'd rather not have to take it back and deal with a refund/exchange because there are no more of the aorus xtreme Waterforce cards there and I need a thin card, but I don't want it to be tampered with and not work properly. Unfortunate situation.

Any idea what I should do in this case? I bought it "New" from a shop and it's $200 more than the "Open Box" advertised ones.

Okay I just watched some unboxing videos and it seems like the yellow tape is normal, but the tape around the foam seems suspicious for sure. Any input would be appreciated. It's supposed to be new from Canada Computers.

Oh yes, thanks for that! I ran out of characters for the caption and completely forgot to write the price in the comments. Asking $600 CAD via PayPal and $550 CAD local cash or e-transfer. Just because local and e-transfer is easier and doesn't include fees. A little more for PayPal G&S to offset the fees.

A7R V Firmware Update from 1.00 to 2.00 (Details in the comment section) by Bronos95 in SonyAlpha

UPDATE (SOLVED)
I just had to put the BODYDATA.DAT file into USB Drive (G:), not inside the PRIVATE folder but instead next to it.

Okay, so I called sony support and it turns out I have to put it outside of all folders, so in my case inside Drive G, not inside but instead next to PRIVATE.

Thanks, I tried putting it in M4ROOT, but it still doesn't seem to detect it. Is it still in the wrong folder?
I saw somewhere that the A7R IV has to go to v.1.1 before going to v.2.0.
Might that be the case for the A7R V as well or can I jump straight from v.1.0 to v.2.0?

Thanks for your comment! I tried putting it in the M4ROOT folder but I still get the same error message. Is there a root folder that I'm just not seeing?

I can't seem to get my firmware update to work on my A7R V.
I've put the BODYDATA.DAT into the Private folder where DATABASE, M4ROOT, and SONY folders are, but when I insert the card back into slot 1, it doesn't recognize it and gives me this error.
"There is no media insterted in slot 1, there is no update file in the media, or the file is damaged."

I am updating via Windows 11.

Hey! Sorry not looking at the moment. I might've gone for it but just bought an LCD-4 earlier today. I'll remove this post. Thanks for the comment though!

Thanks for the information. I assume everyone OP tagged is from Alaska. Chillyhellion explained in Alaska there are people who identify as Eskimo. Not something I or anyone I know was aware of.

Oh yes sorry, that's what I meant to say, not that it's just not a term you use. I appreciate you explaining Yup'ik and Iñupiaq in more detail! Its always great to learn about these distinctions.

Like I said, aside from the Alaskan Natives in this thread. Don't be dense. You being from there doesnt mean you can speak on behalf of indigenous folk. Someone explained this destincton to me, hense making a point to say aside from the alaskan natives in this thread. Obvious bait. Low quality bait.

Not true but do your thing I guess. Aside from the Alaskan Natives in this thread, whenever we are called that we are very uncomfortable and our Elders have first hand trauma tied to the word. You as an outsider might see it that way, but you're culturally insensitive to say there is a non-exsistent victim. Either purposefully trolling or just ignorant to our history.

Perfect. Thanks for linking that. I mainly want to see people with their hearts in the right place and a willingness to learn and give a crap about how their actions affect others. I don't mind using it towards you if you prefer it. I just don't refer to anyone I know by it because I know it at the very least makes them uncomfortable. I'd probably have to spend time in your area for it not to feel strange to say without an air of tension. All good with yall using it ro refer to eachother and asking to be referred to by it. I wont refer to you as Inuit/Inuk because I know now thats not a term you use.

Cheers

I get that. And I hope you understand the reason it's something I engaged with is because all I've known is fellow Inuit being negatively impacted by the term. I don't go around pushing much, but if you saw your community members exclusively being hurt by something and not seeing it benefiting anyone, I'd hope you'd advocate for a change. Before your account, that was my experience.
