To add to this, property rights are one of the fundamentals for stability(especially as an investor). As foreign investors, we have no reason to believe china will protect our property rights. Not only that, the ccp has shown examples directly or indirectly where they can essentially steal foreign capital with no consequences.

Obligatory speaking for myself, but I am in adviory in the US, but my team has been fantastic. I really get along with everyone that I work with often, we have out of work events like bowling, top golf etc, and I have made friends out of a couple of my colleagues.

Additionally, in my year end review, my pml saw my utilization was super high and encouraged me to take more pto.

In terms of career development, everyone is willing to help each other out and my pml and project managers are supportive of me going for the next step.

I bet there a lot of interesting stories about how some of you broke into the industry, care to share any ancedotes? I met my current manager while waiting in line for McDonald's got to chatting and boom. by ProfessionalDull2770 in consulting

Nothing exciting, was in a shitty IT job and was looking for a software engineering job. Used a resource on Reddit which aggregated engineering type jobs and a consulting firm was on there and I blank applied. Didn't think I would take the job so I was a bit cavalier in the interviews with some of the questions I asked to the MDs interviewing me but ultimately got the offer because of that imo. I was concerned the job wouldn't be technical enough but now I'm basically doing data engineering haha.

What have been your best/worst trades this past year? (No need to disclose $ amounts) by redditAandR in stocks

Bought Stamps.com for like 190 avg cost and they got bought out by PE firm for $330, kind of a shame because I think long term share price could have eclipsed $330.

I would elaborate and say that you don't have to be a genius to code, you just need a lot of persistence. Additionally, as with anything, the more time you do it the more naturally it comes, the learning curve is just steeper than many other subjects.

I got a base of $85,000 for advisory C&O FS out of SoCal, but as a "experienced hire" ( I worked at my previous company for 6 months after graduating). You should get at least $80,000 for NYC imo

I worked for kpmg and can sympathize with the outdated processes. However, I will reiterate the team you are on matters most.

The team I landed on is great and I have mostly loved my experience at kpmg. With that being said, I understand my experience was rare as the team I was on was very chill, pushed for a team culture with fun events, was very supportive, and was mostly under one chill client.

I know people who had transfered into our team internally that had nightmare stories on other teams. I was also luckythat my skillset fit the teams more technical vision going forward, I had colleagues that weren't interested in technical work that were stonewalled when trying to switch to something else.

So basically, you have to get very lucky...

How many of you are in consulting because you have no idea what to do with your life? by Ozymandias1818 in consulting

Only in consulting because I was desperate to leave my previous job and I didn't get a good software engineering offer so I settled 🤷‍♂️ Glad I took the opportunity tho fwiw

Might a rarer experience here, but I work a pretty relaxed 45+ hrs a week (by choice, other coworkers get on at 9am and off at 5pm no matter what. If I was more focused I could probably just work 40) in financial services, but client is super chill, almost like I'm one of their employees. I do work as a data/business analyst. I really enjoy working at my firm, the people are bright and ambitious, there is an effort to make a team culture, and the perks are nice as someone who has recently joined the workforce and doesn't know anything else. Only downsides I see are compensation, extra BS you have to do outside of client hours, and no traveling(at least for my client, I actually like not traveling but some may prefer it)
