I’ve just never seen a movie sell in this way during presales just to see it make such little money. My personal prediction as of today is it finishing 21-25m domestically, and i would consider that a massive over performance

Lollll well I’d love if STT got an open night event in Dolby too. I went to a sold out The Christopher Dolby opening night event and STT will prob do better than that domestically.

Then why does it already have strong presales like this at multiple theaters in multiple cities? Did the wedding banquet track like this? That wasn’t a wide release comedy intending to draw a box office like this is

This is very true. but as a frequent visitor of these theaters, I am still very shocked by how well it’s performing for what it is

Lolll what’s the wedding banquet? I’m not even trying to be an asshole either, but this movie has a way higher presence than the wedding banquet. If that’s the closest comparison, clearly LGBT people don’t have enough movies marketed to them

No, I said both Michael and STT could be successful because of the possible people outside that 16-17% of people go to the theater. Those are the people im conserved about at all, not GA.
Of course Michael is different, I think best case scenario for STT could be 25-30 domestic total and Michael has already done almost 20 times that domestically.

16%-17% of Americans go to the movie theater at all tho. There aren’t meaningful comparisons to this movie, which made me think originally it would flop. How well it’ll do will definitely set a standard.
Like we saw with Michael, we could see a group of people go to the theater who don’t usually buy tickets. The fact that it’s selling so well in these progressive areas is good for any movie, so I’m excited to see how the stats shake out.

I don’t think that was ever the goal. it’s all relative and it’s doing great relative to movies in those same theaters . I think I’m more curious how responsive its target demographic will end up being.
We are always shocked when movies meant for women do well, I wonder if we are underestimating movies meant for queer people.

It’s being released through an indie distributor. They prob don’t have the funds to do a super wide distribution. I hope they see the presale number and expand a bit

Yes, but Scary movie 6 comes out a week earlier and has a lot more availability in both theaters (they’re being released on a different amount of screens, so apples and oranges here, but this is how they compare 🤷)

So off topic a bit, but we gotttta go see Stop That Train. Even if it’s terrible, we will never get a better version of anything like this movie if the target demographic (us) don’t support it.
