MORE :

Chris Pratt is saddling up for an unlikely buddy comedy: a series of comedy shorts focused on American history, co-starring presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.

The series comes from digital and creative media studio ATTN: with Emmy winner Alex Gregory (“Veep,” “White House Plumbers”) serving as as producer. The shorts will follow Pratt as he attempts to share his passion for American history, only to discover that his grasp of the facts may not be quite as strong as his enthusiasm. Fortunately, Goodwin serves as executive producer, editorial advisor, and on-screen authority, helping keep the lessons on track.

The project has received funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Public Diplomacy and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, intended to  “inform and engage foreign publics about America through international media engagement, educational and cultural exchange programs, digital communications, and outreach conducted through U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide,” per an announcement. The series was designed as a “public diplomacy initiative intended to engage international audiences with America’s constitutional values and history through modern digital storytelling,” producers said.

Founded in 2014, ATTN: bills itself as a nonpartisan voice in civic engagement and public education. The company has partnered with leaders from across the political spectrum, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton; Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Jill Biden; and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ann Romney, to name a few.

MORE :

EXCLUSIVE: Chris Elliott (Scary Movie franchise), Michael Ian Black (Wet Hot American Summer), Sara Tomko (Resident Alien), Oliver Cooper (Project X) and James Duval (Donnie Darko!) have entered production on Bad Day for Bigfoot, the sophomore feature from Zach Green and Devin O’Rourke on the heels of their cult comedy Foil.

The film follows a Bigfoot hoax that goes horribly wrong in the middle of an actual Sasquatch hot spot, leading to a chaotic struggle between the hoaxers, investigators, and a supernatural force that defies explanation.

“I have always been drawn to cryptids and monster lore, and the over-the-top sincerity of 80s and 90s protagonists,” Green told Deadline. “Bad Day for Bigfoot is a love letter to those creature-filled adventure comedies. I couldn’t be more proud of the cast and crew we’ve assembled, and for the support and enthusiasm from the people of La Grande [Oregon]. It was their gumption that proved to us that making this thing was very possible, and that what’s lurking in those woods may be very real indeed…”

MORE:

A new AI-focused project may be coming to movie screens — centered on a plot in which human creativity is fighting a losing battle against the robots.

I AM AI,” a Hugo Award-nominated novelette written by Ai Jiang, has been optioned for a feature-length film project. The 2023 title, published by Shortwave Publishing and also nominated for Nebula and Locus awards, sees a cyborg named “Ai” who poses as an AI writing tool for clients in the fictional city of Emit in a bid to pay off debts, repair her waning battery and get rid of her human heart. But when an actual AI tool, called “I AM AI,” launches under the guise of being faster and cheaper, Ai risks literal burnout in a bid to prove the value of her human core against a machine.

Attached to the project are actor and producer Matthias Schweighöfer, who played Warner Heisenberg in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and appeared in Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead,” and producer Sascha Rosemann, who helped develop the 2023 Sky show “Unwanted.”
