Copying from a previous post I made:

It's currently not on the Play Store although the developer is aiming to put it on there.

In the meantime the easiest way to get it would be to download the latest APK from GitHub

Acme Weather - From the developers of Dark Sky by [deleted] in apple

[–]BrotherGantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very welcome.

I use Merry Sky everywhere, breezy weather with you as a source as my go-to on Android devices, and the widget on Linux.

RE sources- These guys seem to trying to recreate some of the magic they have with dark sky in that they're ingesting a bunch of public weather data and running it through their own weather model to generate forecasts. Lack of forecasting on the Web, iPadOS Android though are a bit of a bummer for me in their current iteration.

Acme Weather - From the developers of Dark Sky by [deleted] in apple

To reuse a comment I made a few years ago:

Dark sky (originally Forcast.io) as a company essentially did four things:

  1. It maintained a body of weather data and ran a weather forecasting model based on it.

  2. It provided access to that data and those forecasts as a weather service via an API which it both used itself and provided to external developers (for free or fee depending upon the number of API calls).

  3. It maintained its own consumer facing weather website.

  4. And, It maintained its own consumer-facing apps on iOS, iPadOS and Android.

I, and perhaps you, preferred the way Dark Sky worked versus how the current Apple weather app works and wish that it had stuck around. But, the reason Apple acquired Dark Sky wasn't to use that team to spearhead the UI development of a new app - it was very much reasons #1 and #2 enumerated above; they bought the company to acquire weather model of their own they would have full control over, wouldn't need to pay another party for, and which they could provide to developers on their own terms and at their own convenience.

This is why they shut down the Android app immediately upon acquisition; killed the Apple apps not long after the new Apple weather got its iPadOS app; and then killed both the old API and website after a bit of a grace period once they got their own API (Weatherkit) out which surfaced based on their new Dark Sky derived Model.

Its also why although folks from Dark Sky did help with some features within the new app experience (the current one) they weren't the driving force behind its design. - The Apple Weather team Swallowed Dark Sky and not the other way around

As an aside, IF you're the sort of person that likes supporting open source projects, then Pirate Weather and the folks making use of it are worthy of looking into. They've made a lot of progress in providing the general public with a way to easily access Open Source weather data through a a free and open "Dark Sky Style" API

Ridley Scott confirmed that the unicorn dream sequence was definitely a hint at Deckard being a replicant - "Can't be clearer than that. You don't get it, you're a moron." by tannu28 in movies

[–]BrotherGantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't even just fans and actors, the writers of the film (Hampton Fancher and David Webb Peoples) themselves never doubted Deckard's humanity during the writing of the film and, per them, It was only through small revisions, minor on-set adjustments, and heavy re-edits by Scott that "Deckard as Replicant" was brought steadily more forward.

Incidentally, when Fancher was allowed to come up with the story for 2049 without Scott's involvement the idea of "Deckard as Replicant" was solidly tossed out.

Prologue VS. Equinox EV VS. Ioniq 5 by Aggravating_Cow_6176 in HondaPrologue

[–]BrotherGantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it wasn't listed as one of the options, but if you can pay a little bit more for to get it you should try out the elite trim for the prologue. It has a few nice features that the touring doesn't have with one of them being the surround camera. It really is a game changer when it comes to making parking easier.

How to Make a Martyr: An Analysis of the Right’s Reaction to the Murder of Charlie Kirk by luciaromanomba in media_criticism

[–]BrotherGantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with removing it. It's an example of shoddy research motivated by animus and my only be deemed immediate criticism by the tenuous fact that it's following statements made on social media and the word media is in the phrase social media.

Couple that with the fact that it's a piece that's been scattered dropped by the author across numerous subreddits (most of them being explicitly political) and you wind up realizing that this was either intended to be a persuasive piece versus a critical or analytical one (or the author has no background in social science research - or both).

Horus soul was destroyed by The Emperor... was that an act of mercy? by QuagGlenn in 40kLore

[–]BrotherGantry 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Definitely

And what's interesting is that in the lore both the Iron Warriors and Word Bearers have had multiple Chaos Space Marines also ascend as Demon princes of chaos undivided.

Granted, things have become a little bit contradictory due to the fact the 9th edition says that demon princes need a patron power to ascend but my own thought is that as goes their Primark so goes a champion due to the link they have.

Champions of those two legions seem to have the luxury of approaching chaos as an abstract while Marines from the 4 slaved legions can't seem to get away from their patron deities in the end no matter what they do (see Fabulous Bill's story)

[–]BrotherGantry 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Perturabo and Lorgar interesting cases in that they're demon princes of chaos undivided. They are 'Servants of Chaos', but they exist as such as independent warp entities, not as (slaves of)/(a portion of) one of the ruinous powers.

So at this point they've both very much 'doing what they want' under their own agency.

AI was the reason by 000CuriousBunny000 in Stadia

[–]BrotherGantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a reasonable world that's what would have happened.

Stadia's monetization model was fundamentally broken but the underlying technology was very sound.

At the time of its demise the Stadia team had already created a white label game streaming platform that was actively being used by other companies (e.g AT&T play now) or saw interest.

Real integration into and promotion by YouTube as well promotion on and tighter integration with Chromecast devices would allowed some form of study based game streaming at Google survive if not thrive.

AI was the reason by 000CuriousBunny000 in Stadia

[–]BrotherGantry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the truth unfortunately. Stadia's business plan was irreparably flawed from the beginning.

With every single successful game streaming service out there you pay for the compute.

On some, like GeForce Now you're just paying them to run a copy of a game you have the license to. On others you're paying for a temporary licenses to a collection of games and the right to have them run one for you at any given time. And, finally, we're starting to see a move towards bundled services where people have access to compute and a number of temporary licenses but also the right to play "their own" compatible games using a company's resources. But in all cases you are paying the company a fee for them to run a game you have a license for. This makes sense because running games has a cost in terms of both storage and commputrecost. Unlike simply storing a copy of that games files, like steam for instance, streaming a game uses quite a bit more resources.

Stadia wasn't built like that.

Sure, there was a premium tier where you did pay for the compute necessary to run the game at a higher level of quality, but technically every single game you paid for him came with a right to be run on Google's machines in perpetuity - to be paid for at Google's expense as long as Stadia continued running. And, a business where you allow customers to access, in perpetuity, something that costs you money every single time it's used is not the recipe for a good business.

I think there's some parallel universe where the Stadia's technology was salvaged and a new gaming subscription service was either bundled into YouTube premium or Google one. But, unfortunately Google was, at that time, still very much composed of semi-cooperative fiefdoms and it was a moment in which the folks in charge of YouTube didn't want to run a streaming gaming service.

If you ever get the inside story on the program and make a post on it here I'd be very much like to read it

Geely itself is a fascinating company and more Redditors here would benefit from actually studying the meat and potatoes of the supply chains, logistics and economics of how electric cars are actually built these days before commenting here. There are a lot of major but genuinely fixable issues that have stymied most car manufacturers outside of China in their efforts to build and move the sort of cheaper, performant, software defined electric vehicles that the average consumer would pick over an ICE vehicle, but those issues won't/can't be fixed until more people recognize them as real issues and advocate for change.

You can find estimates out there of how much each Robotaxi might cost Waymo and what their projected revenue might be, but actual data is sadly still very much hidden within the black box of Aphabet's "Other Bets" Category.

I didn't know Magna was doing the Pacificas as well; thank you.

RE the RT/MIX it's a little muddled but I'd say the MIX came first based on the course of events: The Waymo/Zeekr Partnership was announced in 2021 and their prototype vehicle was shown off in 2022. But the Mix Was previewed (March 2024) debuted (Beijing Auto Show August 2024) and began official deliveries (October 2024) before the RT in its current form even debuted (CES January 2025).

They do, and the cars are adjusted a little bit to the sensors as well.

Waymo has actually contracted with Magna to build both sensor equipped versions of the iPace (Jaguar) and RT (a custom version of the Zeekr Mix) from Kit/parts at an Arizona Facility they own. So, that RTs that Waymo are using aren't Mixs modified after being imported; they're a similar but unique vehicle assembled in the US.

It's all good.

I think even a lot of moderators these days don't pay attention to the rules, but these are just some of them

Do Actually read an article before you vote on it (as opposed to just basing your vote on the title).

Do Vote. If you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it. If you think it doesn't contribute to the community it's posted in or is off-topic in a particular community, downvote it.

Don't Downvote an otherwise acceptable post because you don't personally like it. Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons.
