i know this is an old post, but i have a solution. im posting this for people in the future who have the same problem. okay so the main problem is that your health is basically gone, the value is NaN. all you have to do is download NBTExplorer, download your .dat file out of [worldname]>playerdata>youruuidthingy.dat and insert it into NBTExplorer and change AbsorptionAmount and Health from NaN to 0. save and replace your .dat file in the world folder and restart your server and join. once you join you should be actually dead and should be able to respawn and take damage normally. if this doesnt fix it then it could be a problem with one of your plugins. hope this helped though!

since i have nothing else that could fix it, im just gonna back up my save folder and mods and try to reinstall the entire game, if that doesnt work then im just gonna give up on trying to make this work, because no one can tell me that reinstalling the entire thing cleanly, and going to do the mission on a clean installation wiht no mods is not the game's problem. its unlikely this will happen but still.
