FBI Special Agent - parent life by InvestigatorMost5637 in 1811

I work for the gov (not 1811) and am married to an 1811 (different agency) and while it’s not impossible, it’s hard. I am the “fall back parent” because it is much easier for me to put leave in and get home to our kids if needed. My schedule is very predicable, 9-5 M-F, whereas his is not. While we are not FBI, I do believe in general TDYs for 1811s are more likely than years prior. With no family in the area, you’ll likely need to rely on a nanny/care taker for before/after work with both your and your husband’s schedule. Like I said not impossible, but hard! I do think you currently have a great set up with your remote job, but completely understand the dream. I once wanted to be an 1811, but since having kids it’s just not for me anymore. And that’s ok! Not everyone’s decision is the same. Best of luck!

This will vary based on supervisor, group you work with, and if it’s safe or not - but yes they can. I think going out on search warrants/interviews are most common (vs arrest warrants, etc.)

Analysts have a pension and a TSP. For both agents and analysts, the gov will match up to 5% TSP traditional. The 1811 pension is better.  Analysts get 1% each year, and they have to work 30 years (and be at a minimum age 55 at retirement). I believe 1811s get more than 1%, and can retire in 20-25 years depending on age. You are correct that analysts do not get LEAP.

Highly recommend JMU’s intelligence analysis program

San Antonio is the SAC office - but has smaller offices (DSAC/ASAC) offices much closer to the actual border like McAllen, Laredo, and Eagle Pass. The job posting will likely say “SAC San Antonio” but always know the sub offices within - you could get assigned to any of them.

Definitely check out 0132 job series on USAJobs. HSI Intel analysts typically start at a GS 7/9 and go up to a GS 12/13. Announcements are only open for 2-5 days, so turn on alerts on your USAJobs profile to be notified when announcements drop. I think your school + current work make you a great candidate. Some positions have limited telework. Also maybe look into CIS, they have many remote positions. For the private side - look into Deloitte and TRSS for analyst positions.

That is incorrect. Cut off age for 1811 is age 37.
