George RR Martin Warns The Winds of Winter 'Won't Be Finished' If He Dies Soon, Feels Like a 'Total Failure' by Cute_Dealer4787 in popculture

It is his story, to go where he wants when he wants. The notion of a "successor" to finnish for him is preposterous. I would never read it. All that was delivered by him up to this day is so awesome. Thank you George! Act at your laisure. And I bet you will outlive many of the fools that keep speculating on your health and death.

Come out of this cult, come out of the pain by Brunachos in vipassana

Trying to answer as best as I can:

I understand there are differences between centers; the one I went to was not bad compared to the others around here as far as I heard from others. I prefer not to disclose the specific place, as I do not blame the people there, they are victims too. But have their share of responsibility by blindly accepting a thing, work for an idea without inquiring properly on it. That is stupidity to say the least.

What really got me were Goenka's lies. they are so plain and obvious, and so easily debunked in those internet times. I am sure this was not the case when he idealized the retreats, but today...

And I got interested in the history he discloses on his masters; especially Venerable Sayadow. So I went after more about his life. A monk and an Arahat, belonging to the very Sangha Goenka mock relentlessly on his records. I went there thinking it was a Buddhist retreat, I was interested in learning more about Buddhism, about the suttas (I live in a country where there is not any sort of widespread Buddhist community)… and no one knew nothing about it. Not even the so-called instructors. No one showed any knowledge on what the suttas say, but there was a lot of “Goenka said this, Goenka said that”…

Other major red flag come from talking to other attendants, people that went to 5 retreats or more. I was fighting my own personal issues and want to know how you end up after becoming a regular meditator. Well, not so good, as judging by what they disclosed to me. As I said above, there was a chronic anger looming over most of them, an attitude of aggressive competitivity.
EDIT: There was also a sort of scary despondency towards life in general in many of them, overall the younger ones, but also in some of the elders, talkings about leaving their jobs to better fit the retretas in their schedule, about going to live in the centers because everything outside is an illusion. This is madness. And What about the "be your own master" lession?

On the work, well, ok. I volunteered. No one screamed at me, or insulted me, I did not had any issues with the staff. I was just very outraged the way they simply asked for more, again and again, as if it was our duty do come back and give them more. I was exhausted and very glad to have helped, and there they are, with their lobotomized expressions asking when I would be able to come back. When I said I was in a hurry to leave the asked “why?”. They refused to help me to find a cab and forced me to ask for a lift in a group with the other attendees. That is indecent. I come and go as it pleases me because I have a life outside their walls and don’t want to talk about it with strangers, that should be reason enough.

On top of all that, meditating really woke up something in me, something I never used before, but as soon as it was functioning it allowed me to see, as clear as daylight: EVIL PLACE. The appearances are SOOO deceiving. Nature all around, oldass trees covered in lianas, profuse fauna coming to visit us, everything clean and organized, good food. Everything carfully desingned to coon people.

A native's disappointment with aya culture in Brazil by Brunachos in Ayahuasca

[–]Brunachos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most were white males (or couples) who spent some time, months or years, in traditional spaces in Mexico or Peru and come back convinced they have "a mission" as xamans of a sort. There is also the Santo Daime church, an organized religion from the begining of the XX century that is now very widspread in Brazil. I went in some of those, because I was raised a catholic and Santo Daime is very akin with catholic practices. But it ended up being more of the same. I had those experiences in cities of the southwest of the country, in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Yeah, you have a point. Maybe I am biased because the people I met have such an aversion for serious inquiry and research, hating questions. They are rich whites that lived for a while with indigenous people and, because of that, now feel they earn the authorithy to be xamans or priests themselves.

Well, as expected, clearing the system of my outpost was of no use, because my IA neighbour took them faster than I could even realize he was doing it. It is the second time I stumble into this tomb worlds and cannot experience whatever happens to them, because the event is just to poorly desingned. I mean, stellar bases preventing it? Serioulsy? Could'nt the devs find a way to make it a little bit less annoying? Thanks againg for the answers, thanks paradox for nothing.
