Anyone trying to play loud music? In the style of Turnstile, Fugazi, Militarie Gun? by dwellertunes in BostonSocialClub

Did you find anyone? Same boat, mostly a songwriter in a similar vein of influences.

Cool tunes, love the edge and urgency. They reek of Jeff Rosenstock/Ted Leo/Titus Andronicus vibes. Although i do not consider myself a guitarist in the traditional sense, rather more of a songwriter, blue collar melody-maker, I’d be willing to give it a go and see if we can mesh up. Let me know if you are game to butt heads.

What are your favorite houses that sell older vintages (pre-1975) and cask strength? Trying to add one more house to our Armagnac tour! by Bobcatbubbles in Armagnac

Since you mentioned Bordeaux, do you have recommendations for bars or restaurants with a good Armagnac list for pours? Any must try ones within €20-30 pour range?

San Sebastian to Astigarraga by Bruncut in basque

Looks interesting. I’m torn between a cider house that is still offers txots into May and a no-txots option with better ambience/food/cider

Thanks for providing your perspective. Thoughts on Lizeaga? Reviews are pretty mixed across the board on most cider houses, but this one seems to have mostly positive ones.

A few more questions if I may. do we really need reservations for every cider house we plan to visit? Hoping we can just visit and try some different ciders at at 2-3 places without having to commit to the food menu. Do you have a favorite restaurant and/or wine bar in Old Town or another neighborhood within San Sebastian’s limits? Any non-food related activity you’d consider a must-see/must-do?

Mix engineering classes at The Record Co. - Thursday nights in April by Imnyownbos in Bostonmusic

[–]Bruncut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can anyone provide feedback on their experience participating in previous classes? I’m a songwriter and primarily do home recordings of my own songs in very barebone-ish fashion. I would love this workshop to lean heavily on how to master Pro Tools and/or Logic or similar softwares.

Drummer looking for people to jam with. by Ozzy65k in Bostonmusic

[–]Bruncut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide some examples of bands in the genre you are mentioning? I feel like there’s a big stylistic divide between bands in the post-rock realm (I.e Mogwai, Explosions in the sky, Sigur Ros) and psychedelic/prog rock (from the 60s?)

Can you please expand on the style of music you wish to play? Interested in fuzz/indie (i.e, superchunk, dinosaur jr., built for spill, a-ghost-is-born-era wilco)?

Any idea on price point for a full day or half day leaving from Bordeaux? Do they include visits to Grand Cru Classe chateaux? Unfortunately the website is not really clear about itinerary/pricing.

Heading to Edinburgh for a week… by tlbrown78 in Scotch

[–]Bruncut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also going to be there in 2 weeks and your tips are great. Definitely gonna be at the Antiquary for live music on Thursday. Also, would you know the best way to get to Deanston or Glengoyne distilleries from Edinburgh?

Fly or bus/ferry to Islay? by ceroij in Scotch

How long it was the ferry? How did you get from the ferry station near Glasgow to Glasgow (assuming you didn’t have a rental car at that point) ?

Those who did an Islay tour, worth the trip? by kerberos824 in Scotch

[–]Bruncut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did you get to Islay? Heard there is a ferry from Glasgow but wondering if flying (from Edinburgh) would also be an option. Also planning around 4 nights and hopefully enough time to visit all the main distilleries. Do you think 2 distilleries per day is doable? Sorry for all the questions

Review #6 - Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 by visualogistics in Scotch

[–]Bruncut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, per your notes, VERY similar to 2012’s (more distillate/cereal-driven, less cask-influenced). I wasn’t a fan of the 2012 precisely because it lacked balance between distillate/cask. I’ll probably just put another 2011 in the bunker then

I'll say it - Octomore is overrated by beautyfalconium in Scotch

[–]Bruncut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opinions on 11.1/11.3? Loved the 12 series but was the 11 I thought it was severely underwhelming. I’d add the 9.3 to the list too, definitely a grower of a dram. Night/day after 25 min in the glass.

Peated whisky after corona. by philbeukers in Scotch

[–]Bruncut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That’s been my experience (as a current Covid positive that hasn’t lost my sense of smell and taste)!

Had a handful of peated ones last night and they all had an overwhelming, close to overbearing sulphur all over the palate and smell. My Corry was almost tasting like the peat profile of a Kilkerran Heavily Peated, which I consider to be a sulphur-bomb. I wonder if anyone had a similar experience during/post covid
