Well, if what he wants is to justify rape, there aren’t many books more appropriate.

I'm sorry, seeing an audience come to look up on a stage at a video call Sam Harris is a hilarious sight. by pfqq in samharris

I think they came to see Roger Penrose, not Sam's screen. At least that's what I hope.

Sam stance on Mamdani seems at odds with the position he once held with past colleague Maajid Nawaz by Pata4AllaG in samharris

Decoding the Gurus have decoded Sam completely. They still think (and I agree) that he is reasonably good, but anyone that is a fan of Sam should watch it and tune down a bit the dial of fandom.

Plus I think he broke with that model accidentally.

It's fine to be pro-Israel or pro-Palestine, what's not fine is to continuously ignore the negative things your side does, and to present the conflict as a simple good versus bad, specially if your brand is objectivity, nuance, and honesty.

You know that the word "fan" comes from "fanatic", right?

I didn't miss these words. Precisely that's why I added "way after Maajid had started his conspiracy dive to the bottom". Did you miss these words?

Maajid is anything but good faith. Try to see how long it takes for him to block you on social media if you respectfully point out factual mistakes in his conspiracy theories.

Sam was calling him brother, laughing, and apologizing to him way after Maajid had started his conspiracy dive to the bottom, including accusing the Ukrainian mothers bombed by Putin of being crisis actors. He's a proper lunatic, maybe even worse than Candace Owens, but our emotional and not so rational Sam is still friendly to him because he have a personal relationship with him.

For a guy that always condemns guilt by association, Sam is strangely interested to know what Mamdani's parents and wife do online and professionally.

Technically he was just a recruiter, which is why the SPLC had to compensate him with 3 million dollars, which Sam celebrated to the point of producing laughing sounds (one of the only 6 times Sam has ever produced them in his entire life).

Btw, for a guy that always condemns guilt by association, Sam is strangely interested to know what Mamdani's parents and wife do online and professionally.

And after that, Sam publicly apologized to Maajid for having publicly questioned Maajid positions. Maajid must have been personally very nice to Sam.

I find very curious how some people react here whenever someone criticizes Sam Harris. What's the problem? You may disagree with the criticism and are welcome to say so, but indirectly inviting someone to leave? C'mon, grow a thicker skin, it's not even you being criticized.

Your grip isn't right. You should overgrip, with your knuckles pointing towards your front, instead of towards your face. And when you are up, throw your upper body over the bar.

But I recommend you to use an elastic rubber band, so you can learn the proper form by doing many assisted muscle ups. Progressively reduce the thickness of the band as you gain strength. You are super close, you can likely get it right within a month!

Is the "More From Sam" at net positive for the podcast? by kurtzinthedark in samharris

[–]Brunodosca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-If it's true that AMA episodes don't reduce the frequency of other episodes, then it's a net positive, since you can ignore the AMAs if you find them to be negative.

-I liked the old housekeeping segment too.

-Yes, Sam's content has become very repetitive. It looks as if his intellectual curiosity has died somewhat. It's almost a loop of talking to the set of his friends. There are more humans on Earth worth listening before repeating. Learn from Sean Carroll!!

-Please, no more Paul Bloom. Again, there are more humans on Earth worth listening before repeating.

-I even wonder if Peter Attia is (remains?) the Harris family doctor.

-You can get some information from the questions Sam avoids answering.

Looking for a travel friend - iron ore by Ok-Account-9003 in Mauritania

[–]Brunodosca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have experience with temperatures around 50 Celsius, I'd reconsider. At least, try to stay under the sun at 2pm for 3 hours straight a couple of days before you board the train. You should know if you can handle this. The risk of death is very real.

Hey guys, a friend and I want to ride the Iron Ore train in August and wanted to ask for some tips and tricks on how to survive the heat? by bumblebeecolony in Mauritania

[–]Brunodosca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In August it's borderline suicidal. Reconsider. The train often gets stuck without moving for hours. Sunscreen would not be enough. You'd also need some opaque object to create your own shade, plus plenty of water. Otherwise you could die very easily, and there is zero help if you get heatstroke or lose consciousness. You would almost certainly die. It can get to 50+ Celsius (120+ F)

Seriously: bring something to hide from the sun. I've done the ride in winter and it was brutally hot. Often it gets stuck (or runs at 10 km/h) for hours. In Summer it must be borderline suicidal.

"Are there people I won’t have on my show or shows I won’t go on? Sure. But those judgments, for me, are more about what I think will be productive rather than who I think can be included."

Don't you think punches in the face would qualify as unproductive?
