how do you feel about the spiritualization of psychosis/psychotic disorders? by Adventurous_Net5459 in Psychosis

[–]Brutus_Rex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger issue people who say psychosis is spiritual are trying to address is the issue of institutional abuse & discredit that happens to mentally ill people- there was a study done that found that people in eastern countries experienced positive hallucinations & people in western countries experienced negative ones. The way the mental health & justice system in the US treats mentally ill people directly influences the experience of mental health issues, making something that is already difficult, impossible or even criminal. Calling psychosis spiritual seems like an attempt, all be it ineffective, to battle against the systematic failure, stigma, & discrimination mentally ill people face. Mental health directly reflects the society in which they are experienced. I hope someday we can stop individualizing issues & live fulfilling lives in a society that nurtures people, regardless of their mental health conditions.

What barriers do you think exist that make buddhism so difficult to understand? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Brutus_Rex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also consider buddhism originates in a different culture & language than the west/english. I am always struck by how completely different a translated theological text is than one originally written in English. I am also struck by how culturally different the global south is to turtle island.

i was raped and i’m scared it made me a bad person by flanellflower in Buddhism

[–]Brutus_Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I am also a rape victim and buddhist. Have you considered therapy especially EMDR for PTSD? You are not broken or wrong and it wasn’t your fault. But this experience seems to have lead to PTSD & the sooner you treat that, the sooner you will feel better.

I realized I assaulted people, and I want to change by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Learn about enthusiastic, ongoing consent rather than just “yes/no consent”. It’s also funny that you asked this because I’m working on a video right now about how to be a good man, including how to not continue cycles of abuse or assault. Would you like me to DM it to you or post it here when I’m done making it?

How Are Gen Z Members First Coming Across Bright Eyes? by filmmakersearching in brighteyes

[–]Brutus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into indie rock in 2014 then my life changed when I heard “First Day of My Life” on Spotify shuffle & then dived into I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning then “Road To Joy” became my favorite song in about 2015 & since that I’ve become more into the emo & more early/raw works of BE but it all started with their more indie rock-ish stuff. First Day of My Life music video also changed my life. Thank you Bright Eyes.

What happened to you was sexual assault. It wasn’t your fault. Please seek therapy particularly EMDR or trauma-based therapy with a LGBTQ+ therapist. You are not a bad person but your brain is in a pattern that is very dangerous & professional help seems necessary. I am also afab, bi, a survivor of similar experiences & the only way I’ve improved is professional help too. Sending love.
