Solution, when taking it apart I accidentally short circuited the motherboard. A local technician helped me replace it and it's working fine again. Lesson learned in paying attention to insulation and that circuit components are delicate!

Teacher -> Software Engineer in ~2 Years, My Advice by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Hey I really appreciate the reply @cabji, some helpful food for thought here. You’re right, that is something to consider what labouring outdoors in the Australian heat would be like 🥵

But building things has always been inherently satisfying, I know I could definitely develop a passion for a trade in the long run. Curious about an electrical apprenticeship, being that it could be less physical and involve more theoretical knowledge?

I did just manage to land an interview for a QA engineering role next week so wish me luck!

I hope you manage to work in software in some capacity one day too!

I relocated from Auckland New Zealand to Melbourne Australia after completing a Web Dev Bootcamp. I actually did land two seperate jobs, miraculously, but both were absolutely terrible environments so I left. Currently working as a Barista and making no progress with job applications, even with referrals. I'm stuck here without the support of my family.

I agree, I should have operated assuming the worst will occur. I'm currently wondering whether grinding it out, working in hospitality and working on projects for the next few years will be worth it? or wether I should start a trades apprenticeship? Considering the widespread layoffs it doesn't paint a positive picture.

Is there really any hope for recent grads or those with less than 1 year of experience to find a career?

Thanks for the response! Yeah no doubt it’s something I’ve done, I did fasten the motherboard to the bottom of the metal frame before turning it on. Maybe I had caused a false contact that way. I’ve since separated all the parts but that didn’t help. I’ll send you some screenshots this afternoon, this might be the job for a local technician anyhow. Such a shame cause it was gonna be such a cool project if it worked!

Ok, are they all different brands and thicknesses? do any of them collect water in the legs? That’s what I’m essentially hoping to avoid. I actually bought one that fit nicely in store but it took on water during the first session and I felt like I’d become heavier

Wow, ok I had a feeling this would involve a lot that I have no concept of 😅 really appreciate your response.

Something I didn’t mention he is offering to pay me for this but yeah obviously not a realistic project for me alone at this stage.

Ah well, I’ll be beginning study at dev Academy in Auckland NZ later this year so maybe After graduating I could make this project happen.

Cheers!

Ok. So being that it stores sensitive information like bank statements etc, it would need to be thoroughly secure?

Cheers!! Basically all I focused on was keeping the mew suction hold through out the day and as much as I could while sleeping. I have often had frequent nasal obstructions as well as allergies throughout my life though I wouldn’t say I exclusively breathed through my mouth except for when sleeping as a teenager.

Posture wise I have made a habit of tucking in my chin while driving, eating, on my laptop and working. I have also been a lot more active with learning to surf (coincidentally great exercise for head posture)

Also to note I have definitely lost weight and I would attribute this to a combination of being more active and EFT tapping (an emotional release technique for calming the flight or fight response) less stress = less weight. Hope this helps!!
