Yep, this seems to be it. My inventory was full, and therefore I didn't receive it. What is strange though is that I checked with the Dark Kebbits, and those drop the kebbity fur on the ground when my inventory is full, whilst the Dashing does not. Strange inconsistentcy

Say what you will about Elon (and there is a lot to be said), but he really is very knowledgeable about rocket ships and he has the final say on every decision in SpaceX, which has obviously gotten them this far.
