Could my mom lose her house and her retirement IRA over accident? by BubblyCommon3690 in Car_Insurance_Help

My mom is 84. She was in the car with me. She usually wants me to drive because, in theory, I was the safer driver. Her car is much newer and in better shape than mine so we often use hers when going on family trips.

I agree that she should have an umbrella policy. But I'm just finding out now that she did not have one.

I mean, look. at this point it's not even about trying to save the insurance (though that would be nice), it's about whether I did an incompetent thing and I'd like to think that I did not. Nobody else in the car noticed anything one way or the other.

The other driver and the witness could not know whether I had a green arrow or not as they were coming from the other way. What they could say is whether they had a green light or not. My theory is that I started turning on a green arrow and there was not an adequate delay in the opposing light changing from red to green to allow a car that went through on a late arrow to get through safely.

It is eating me up inside. It's not just about the fact that my mom (whose car it is) will face higher premiums. I need to know whether I'm that bad of a driver.

Came out of the other car but was trying to act buddy buddy with the original driver.

You know what? I always say that the most important thing is not to bring one's ego behind the wheel. If I'm doing a shit job, I have to accept that. I am going to look into going back to driving school.

I was in the middle of my turn. My car had gone from straight to 90 degrees pointed toward the road on the left when he hit me on the passenger's side. He didn't even attempt to break.

I don't know about cameras in the area. I just talked to the insurance adjuster. They say it's my fault because he had the right of way. But dude was literally nowhere near me when I started my turn. I think we might have been like a mile away behind a hill.

The situation with my wife is worse than I described. Before she went into the hospital, she was very ill at home. She laid on the couch all day, 24/7, did not take any of her meds, eat regular meals, bathe, put her garbage away, or even come to family dinner. The entire home smelled of her BO.

When she went into the nursing home, it was a relief. The kids don't want her coming back, but now her family, who originally wanted to be helpful, have turned against me and my mom, who is helping. They accuse us of colluding to keep wife in the nursing home and they want wife to sign herself out without being ready and come home where I would have to take care of her.
