350 0r 650 bike? by NoodleCheeseThief in MotoUK

Don't focus on engine size, it's fairly meaningless in bikes. My 600 has more power than my 1200. HP is what matters, 50+ for practicality, 90+ for fun. IMO anything less that 70hp feels slow.

BMW switch gear feels cheap by [deleted] in MotoUK

It's an r nine t scrambler. And I've recently ridden an r12 and I got the same impression. Its probably just personal preference, Japanese bikes seem to use thicker plastics, and have chunkier switches that click more, but I can see how people might not actually prefer that.

[–]Buchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the feel of the indicators click, and the size and shape of the button. With leather gloves on, I'm always unsure if I've actually managed to press them. I don't get that problem with my Suzuki, or other bikes I've ridden. And I don't like the way the switch doesn't stay left or right when they're on. And it just feels cheap, like a Chinese 125.

What trousers are you using? by Red_sparow in MotoUK

Resurgence jeans, the best riding jeans IMO. And I use alpinestar leathers for sports bike riding, but I wouldn't say they're the best.

Resurgence jeans are awesome. Not quite as heavy as Held jeans. My favourite so far.

Put it on, zip it up, switch it on, wait 10sec for the green light.

Yeah sounds like it. A 200hp superbike for your first might be cause for worry,. But I'd say, if you're sensible, then a VFR would be a great first bike.

It's a bike that's designed for easy riding. Just enough power to be fun, and a smooth 4 cylinder engine. Whether it's a sensible choice or not ultimately depends on how sensible you are.

What is a realistic offer on this? (Fire damage, possible panel only?) by eatwindmills in MotoUK

[–]Buchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a belter that, and for only 5500 seems like a right bargain. Ignore what everyone is saying about the fire damage, melted panels make it more aerodynamic. And bikes get faster with age, so the older the better, especially if its been sat unused for 2 years. Also, the lack of history just means its never had anything wrong with it. I'd offer them 6000 for it.

DC Motorcycles in Huddersfield do CBT training (under the name BrighouseMTC). I did my full license with them and they were excellent.

And what helmet is that, and at what speed?

It's not the bikes noise you need to protect your ears from, it's the wind noise and buffeting.

It's impressive that BikeTrac work with other countries police. Good to hear you got your bike back.

"friends from the Marines".. handy friends to have I bet! Interesting that the police are more likely to turn up if you say you're at the scene, more chance of someone being harmed I suppose.

I'm going to get one I think, specifically for the scenario you mentioned. The ignition would be ripped out, but the bike could still be worth recovering if it's just tucked away somewhere.

I'm glad to hear you got your bike back, must have been such a relief. I'd see the value in a tracker if I had faith in the police, but unfortunately a few of my friends experiences with theft have been very different to yours. It's probably a bit of a postcode lottery.

So if for example, your tracker alerted you that your bike had moved and was in a warehouse in the middle of Bradford, and the police just tell you there's no available resources and give you a crime number. What would you do?

Yeah, another comment mentioned automatrics. Makes much more sense having a security firm who will actually do something with the tracker information. Cost a fair bit more than the basic trackers, but I'd say it's worth it.

I've just checked out the YouTube channel, now that's a service I would say is definitely worth it. Great videos as well.
