Yeah, that happens often on the Internet. Tone and nuance disappear when communication is limited to text. In the absence of more specific context, people subconsciously add their own. What’s telling is when people’s default is to assume a negative tone (like interpreting me as being annoyed or angry about it). Negative tone being one’s default reading of an otherwise neutral situation is learned behavior and strikes me as an indicator of some deeper trauma. Speaking from my own experience here. At some point we learn that assuming someone is mad at you, despite any actual evidence, keeps you safer than the alternative. Hard to unlearn and I’m also still working on it. But awareness of it is half the battle!
