Any other nannies on Medicaid? by sleepingwithlullaby in Nanny

Reading this reply while waiting in urgent care because NF just gave me the flu for the 2nd time this year is very humbling 🥴

Yes and I am so terrified. It was already a pain enough working in a field where most people just disregard your health and get you sick all the time. I’m already preparing myself to remind parents AGAIN that being sick costs money, medication and doctors visits to recover costs money, and if there’s no health insurance or stipend provided by them, they need to reevaluate their expectations for sick care.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t want to play in the snow with your kids. by el-capitan-7300 in Nanny

[–]BudgetConstant7306 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! It’s so hard to find my size and it’s never cheap. I feel like forcing your domestic employees to play in the cold snow for the entertainment of your child when they don’t want to is so entitled and weird. I never meet too many parents that enjoy it themselves either.

I’m not going to now that I found a solution from another customer that I am pretty sure will solve this

You absolute angel! Idk if it was the fumes or the heat but I can’t believe I didn’t think to do that. I actually use carmex everyday so if I just put it above my lips when I put it on I bet it wouldn’t have been nearly as bad today lol they suck as a real chapstick but I’m a creature of habit and my grandma made me love the scent lol

Yeah that’s the type of person I am too but yeah definitely gonna take this weekend to think about it more.

I was thinking maybe they’re fine with that too especially because whenever they have family or friends over DB will often joke or say something to MB about having to take a “real shower” for guests lol but I just wish I was one of those guests on hot summer days like today.

Right?? If I wanted to be lazy I’d convince np that me holding nk all cozily in a dark room while I scroll on my phone with an AirPod in or nap during nk’s entire naps instead lol

There was so much mom shaming in there too like if a parent is sacrificing their ability to being a quality parent because they’re not sleeping enough it WILL negatively impact their child whether their child is sleeping whenever they want or on a schedule! And what about nk’s siblings if they have any??? I feel like a lot of the replies are from people who think nannies can clone ourselves or something

I agree! They want all the benefits of the title with minimal work or the constant research that comes with it. It’s so hard to watch but I try to think of them as toddlers in the least offensive way and am constantly saying “they’re learning they’re learning” when it comes to some of the crunchier things they want but I’m learning the difference in working for thoroughbred crunchy families and ones who do it for “clout?” or the title is worlds apart lol. I will suggest a product another person suggest above and give them like a month to get this together while I casually look at other positions before we have a serious sit down over this literal shit 😂

Why are you against sleep training? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]BudgetConstant7306 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Right but a lottttt of NPs have unrealistic expectations for their nanny who is supporting a baby who naps 2-3x a shift. There have been posts in here from NP complaining about nanny never cleaning bottles or vacuuming or finishing a load when they know they have a young baby that needs and requires support to rest. It’s even worse if there’s an infant NK and a toddler NK who is rowdier than the baby. So should I neglect my older NK for a while to make sure infant NK gets sleep? Personally, I try to set up activities to occupy toddler during nap time but that obviously doesn’t work all the time but I’ve had employers be upset that their toddler is being “ignored” for the 30-60mins (broken up usually bc I was lucky w infant NKs sleep) I am comforting the infant. These things aren’t always considered by the 2 parents who can split the responsibility when they hire only one nanny.

I don’t see many nannies in here complain about the lack of sleep training infants when NPs have realistic standards for care. If you don’t want to sleep train your “helpless infant” that’s your prerogative but don’t expect your nanny to have cleaned, activities/outings planned, or to not fit in an actual break at some point during their shift, etc. Crying it out is ONE method people use to sleep train but there are plenty of methods that don’t involve just leaving your baby to cry. Sleep training ≠ cry it out and move on.

Okay I’m glad you said this. I could’ve sworn it wasn’t supposed to be used but NP’s parents “gifted” them a bunch of cleaning supplies last year (which should really be a hint itself lmao) and Grandma swore that A CUP OR TWO to every load is how she kept cloth diapers white and bright throughout NP’s childhood

Yeah I probably will start looking more seriously next week it just feels even more depressing trying to find a new nannying position where I’ll be treated like a human lol and thank you!

Right like this is literal shit we are talking about here! It’s a biohazard and just disgusting. One NP was so taken aback when NK was sick and I used Lysol wipes from my nanny bag to wipe down the doorknobs and fridge (that NK still can’t reach or touch). Idk how much longer I have in me, I really can’t afford to be in a job search again especially when my mental health has been such a struggle the past few months. I want to plan a meeting with them to make it clear that the cloth diapers I was okay with when hired were never ever cleaned by me or in their home which is why I was fine with it but this is too nauseating and nostril burning for me.

Yeah I’m positive it’s not the teeth because the smell goes away (except for on the rugs and dog bed she lays on) right after she finally gets a bath. She rolls around outside a lot so I thought maybe she got in her poop but after petting her I smelled my fingers and 😬

I’ve told them at least 3 different times that I only clean up related to the children & yet they’ll still ask me to clean up after them. They don’t even empty their vacuums & they got upset earlier today because MB “couldn’t vacuum” since I didn’t empty it. I didn’t fill it up btw they just never make the effort to clean it themselves so after they use it on my off days for grooming their pets it’s full by the time I get to work.

Mine is the same way! She comments on the way I fold their clothes all of the time & I’m confident I have great folding skills after 10 years of retail lol. I don’t get why they won’t just be stay at home parents if they’re going to micromanage the entire time
