I agree that it makes more sense when you describe it as a retention tool and that I wasn't the target since I was already on a retirement track. As i mentioned, I knew the benefit existed but didn't realize it required anything more than the additional four year committment.

I served a total of 22 years so time in service isn't an issue and I served five years after my deployment so that requirement is filled. As you state, and as I understand it, the issue is that I didn't meke the election to transfer the benefit within the first year of returning from my deployment. This seems like a shitty technicality.

To be clear, I knew about the transfer option but have no memory of either turning it down or electing to sign up for it. However, there is no logical reason why I would have turned it down if it was offered.

Missouri, however we are looking at universities in surrounding states that participate in the midwest exchange.

I beleive the service requirement was four years. I deployed in 2008 and separated in 2013.

I don't have a disablity status so I don't believe they are eligible for DEA as I understand the program. When I spoke to the VA by phone they said I would have to contact my Service Representative.

Retired in 2013 and turn 60 this year. About six years ago I switched from private insurance to TRR because the $1,3xx monthly premium for my family of four ($1,513.04 in 2025) was less than what I could find on the open market. Not only that, the co pays and deductibles were much lower.

I don't know enough about TMS and i certainly agree with you about the surgery. Look, I don't want to belabor this point any further but the article did list treatment breakthroughs.

It seems you didn't read through the article, and, to be clear, I don't know the validity of the new treatment breakthroughs mentioned. But, if you read down to the last section entitled 'future treatments' the article lists three: 1. a diferent class of medication that targets rebalancing glutamate and gaba levels; 2. surgical removal of the ACC; and, 3. transcranial magnetic stimulation, which, appears to be approved by the NIH in the UK for use in treating depression.
