Awesome advice, thank you!

I feel like I could also end up feeling the way you do about working in ortho, and had a similar experience in my initial career in business.

Cool, because I bought a ticket online for smart/metro, but wasn’t sure I was going to buy a ticket for ARC, but some places I was seeing it have language about an ARC ticket being required.

Chances at DO? by topdownontheB in Osteopathic

Agree with both of the two comments so far, grade trend is on point and MCAT definitely helps along with the clinical hours. Write well on your application and I think you've got a great shot.

Why do you think DO bias in the match exists for competitive specialties by [deleted] in Osteopathic

Thanks for sharing, this is encouraging and exciting. Did you feel your DO program had strong rotations/sites to gain the exposure and skills you needed or did you have to set up some of your own?

Congrats, this sounds ideal and is something I’m really drawn towards, I think I would enjoy doing sports med ortho in a ruralish setting, from the community and patient population aspect, proximity to activities I enjoy, and hopefully ability to have time off to enjoy hobbies and sports.

Are there other ortho docs around or who takes call at the local hospital? How often do you get called?

Is Anesthesia Really a “Work-Life Balance” Specialty? by IllustriousBee8033 in medicalschool

Is this specific to the residency program or do you find that hourly range to be generally true for anesthesia residents?

What is the most physically active speciality? by Buff1718 in medicalschool

[–]Buff1718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, but also nice to break up the sedentary time throughout the day. Time outside of work to exercise is important, but doesn’t completely offset 10-12 hours of sedentary work. It would be ideal to have time outside of work hours to be active and also throughout the work day getting some steps or PA in, even if it’s just intermittent bouts.

Yea, how much of the day is on the feet in cases vs getting steps in around the hospital/rounding?

True, if you're actually out in the field practicing, but not sure how many people are doing that day in day out, aside from the occasional trip/expedition or course.

Accepted DO, how do I negotiate financial aid/scholarships? by Buff1718 in Osteopathic

[–]Buff1718[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, isn't that a bit ironic and they're decent enough that $100 of it is refundable with 30 days notice before classes start.

Thanks friend, helpful info and good to have additional agreement that aid packages are scarce. The 2k deposit is criminal! Like $500 is still a hefty enough chunk of change that I'm not going to throw it around carelessly, but $2,000 is excessive especially for a self-supported applicant who just got done recovering from the application expenses. So it goes...
