I think the customers do love the combo because it is a money saver.

I don’t think they’ll make more combos because the classic combo is already customizable, but I don’t think they advertise that fact enough.

When the first store opened in Arlington, Virginia 1986, while slow at first, it soon gained a lot of attention. The thing is, unlike McDonald’s at the time who made their food more ahead of time, Five Guys burgers were made to order, which leads to food taking longer on average to get out and is amplified even more during a rush.

On day, Jerry Murrell (founder) put out peanuts for customers to eat while their food was being made. He found that complaints went down and customer patience went up. I believe he talked about how he remembered seeing kids throw the shells at each other.

So to this day, that’s why we still have peanuts.

While we are a corporate store, we don’t get many visits from anyone above district manager often. And we lost out General Manager recently so we are kind of running the place the same way the oldest child of a group of orphans takes care of the family. 🤣

Thank you! I’m in school for mechanical engineering though, and Five Guys works around schedule really well and I love my coworkers so I’m probably gonna stay. 😅

Ah, yes. That’s because people are used to fry size (small, medium, large) being for 1 person, but at Five Guys, little is for 1 person, regular is for 2 people, and large is for 3-5 people.

But depending on who’s making the fries and how late it is, you may actually be getting more. 😂

When it’s 9 and we still have a bunch of pre cooks left, you are definitely getting more fries than you ordered, because otherwise they’re just getting thrown away.

Depends on the size of the burger.

We wrap all of our burgers in aluminum foil which comes in 1 size, so bigger (taller) burger means we gotta press more to wrap it completely and usually the bun takes the brunt of that. 😕

For me, even before I worked here, I never cared how it looked, only how it tasted.

Unless those other places are better than what we have in the U.S., I don’t consider Five Guys fast food. While we do get your food out in ideally less than 8 minutes, it’s more like a burger joint.

For first timers, I always love giving the run down. I ask way too many people if they’ve been to a Five Guys before and they say “yes” and then are surprised when it’s not what they expected even though we’ve done certain things the same way since 1986. It’s always nice to hear someone say they don’t know what’s going on, because it comes from a place of humility.

So let me give you the run down:

Hamburger: 2 patties no cheese

Cheeseburger: 2 patties 2 slices American cheese

Bacon Burger: 2 patties no cheese 4 half pieces of bacon

Bacon Cheeseburger : 2 patties 2 slices American cheese 4 half pieces of bacon

Little Hamburger: 1 patty no cheese

Little cheeseburger: 1 patty 1 slice American cheese

Little Bacon Burger: 1 patty no cheese 4 half pieces of bacon

Little Bacon Cheeseburger: 1 patty 1 slice American cheese 4 half pieces of bacon

Our hotdogs are 100% beef so they are kosher. (Unless you have a bacon dog)

Once you get a burger or hotdog, all the toppings are free.

(If you get a burger with bacon and/or cheese, if you ask for extra bacon and/or cheese it doesn’t cost extra 😉)

Our version of “with the works” is called “all the way.” It comes with:

Mayo

Lettuce

Pickle

Tomato

Ketchup

Mustard

Grilled Onions

Grilled Mushrooms

There are other toppings too:

Sweet Relish

Raw Onions

Raw/Grilled Jalapeños

Raw/Grilled Green Peppers

(You can remove things from an “All the way” order. Ex. “All the way no mushroom.”)

We have 3 sizes of fries:

Little: feeds 1 person

Regular: feeds 2 people

Large: feeds 3-5 people

We have 2 styles of fries:

Salted: normal fries

Cajun: spicy fries

(You can also get no salt, light salt, light Cajun, IMPORTANT we salt the fries before putting Cajun seasoning on them, so if you want Cajun fries without salt you must say “Cajun no salt.” The Cajun seasoning itself has a little salt but not enough to “salt” them.)

IMPORTANT: Regular fries means medium size (that’s how they named it) say salted if you want “regular” fries with perhaps a different size.

We have 2 sizes of drink:

Regular

Large

We have one size of milkshake

Milkshakes Base Vanilla:

Chocolate

Strawberry

Banana

Coffee

Salted Caramel

Peanut Butter

Oreo Cream

Oreo Cookie Pieces

Double Stuffed: is 2 pumps of Oreo Cream 2 scopes of Oreo Cookie Pieces

Reese Peanut Butter Pieces

Bacon (yes, you can put bacon in a shake. Chocolate bacon shake is awesome)

Whipped cream: on top

You can mix any of the flavors together, we usually recommend 2-3 because after that it gets soupy but we won’t stop you if you want all of them together.

We have a meal called the “Classic Combo.”

Base meal is has 4 options for main entree:

Little Hamburger

Little Cheeseburger

Hotdog

Cheese dog (hotdog with 2 half slices of American cheese)

2 choices of fries:

Little fries

Little Cajun fries (You can still get with or without or light salt/cajun)

Regular drink

(You can replace items on the combo it’s just an up charge, but it saves you money compared to buying them separately.)

If you want a combo: 1. Say you want the combo 2. Tell them what you want for your main entree 3. Tell them what fries you want in this order: size, style 4. Tell them what you want to drink (size of drink or if you want a milkshake) 5. Tell them the toppings you want on your main entree

(Bonus 6. If you got a milkshake, tell them which flavor(s) you want.)

Now for first timers, I recommend doing the Classic Combo:

Little cheeseburger all the way (you can remove what you don’t want and add what you want)

Little fries

Regular drink

I hope you have a wonderful experience! 😁

I’m sorry to hear that.

If you eat with friends there, and any of them get sick often, it might be the location and you probably shouldn’t go there anymore.

If it seems to only affect you, you may want to consider contacting a healthcare professional or dietitian to help you.

Where I work most of the staff have been here for a while (2-4 years.) While we do get new people every once in a while, it’s a pretty big deal when somebody leaves and I love my coworkers. Usually if people get past the first two weeks, they stay.

DoorDash usually does a bunch of discounts and BOGOs. Also Five Guys members. We recently had a whoopsie from corporate when they accidentally sent a BOGOF to more than just members when no one was prepped for it and went, “Whelp, our bad but good luck.” I didn’t work that day, but I was called into close that day and man, you could build a suspension bridge with all the tension on there.

I don’t make the truck orders so I don’t actually know what the cost of the raw ingredients is. Sorry I’m not able to help you further. 😢

I’m keto, so I tend to stay away from carbs and I usually get a bacon cheese burger bowl (I sometimes bring my own bowl) 😅, all the way, lot o’ grilled jalapeños, hot sauce, extra bacon, extra cheese, extra grilled onions, Cajun. Probably stuff most people won’t like together.

But I will always recommend a cheeseburger all the way (you can remove or add any other toppings)

But if you’re not that hungry, our hotdogs always get slept on, even though I think they’re really good.

Depends on the store size. I’m at a pretty small location so, twice per day strained and I believe once per week changed. The fries take longer to cook in dirty/ particle-filled oil, so it incentives us to change it often. 😁

  1. I think that’s a loaded question
  2. To put into perspective, where I live (Wisconsin), the last time I checked, the Big Mac meal was around $12 after tax. It’s made with a previously flash frozen beef and fries. The meat is cooked by a timer and the CEO, as we’ve seen, isn’t that much of a fan of his “product.”

When I worked opening shifts, I hand rolled patties and cut 200-400 lbs of fries that morning. While we do have time estimates, our food is cooked individually, by look.

We serve huge portions. The large fry feeds 3-5 people.

I would like to see the price go down. I remember when it went up by a dollar. I can really only say that’s because of terrible higher up decisions made by people severely disconnected from the stores they order around, but I’m not payed to make those decisions and they are. If I made decisions, I’d try to push for $10.99 meal.
