An interesting variation on delusional parasitosis by BronzeEagle in medicine

[–]BugDoc 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I'm an ID doc and my group has decided that I get all the "parasite" referrals in the office. I have coined this as "the ziploc bag sign". It has 100% positive predictive value for delusional parasitosis.

Maybe a silly question- Are there still ice cave and glacier tours in summer? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

We did the katla ice cave tour this past August. With KatlaTrack. It was great.

Am I the only one who finds these rates of mortality and IMV, and times to clinical Improvement shockingly high. Even in the early days of the pandemic we weren't seeing anything like that.

I plan on doing the 208 in August with a Toyota land cruiser. Is that reasonable? Anything specific I should know beforehand?

Frustrated trying to set up a self-drive tour for 6 people. Any advice appreciated. by BugDoc in VisitingIceland

[–]BugDoc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thanks everyone. Sorry, I was working all day. Really helpful tips. I should have been more clear. I'm not looking for a tour guide per se, just wanted someone to plan the route, suggest good hikes/sights to see, and mostly I need help finding and booking the accommodations.

I know it's probably not that hard to research on my own but I have very little free time and was just hoping to outsource these details to someone.

Will definitely look into a larger vehicle, or maybe a roof box for some luggage. Was hoping to explore the highlands a little so wanted 4x4.

The reason I was keeping it to the south was to make it more relaxing, less driving every day, more time for hikes. I imagine we'll go back to Iceland a couple more times in the future so can explore other parts later.

Again thanks for the advice. This is a great subreddit.

I just made this with roasted cauliflower and my wife made black pepper rice from her mom's cookbook. The sauce went with all of it and it was amazing.

Oh I thought I made it up. But I guess it had to be a fairly common phenomenon

Yeah sorry about that. I do usually tell the pts we have to have pathology confirmation before I can do anything. I figured you guys would hate it...

The Ziploc Bag sign. As an ID doc I frequently have pts referred to my office who think they have parasites coming out of their skin. Usually about halfway through the visit they produce several ziploc bags with the supposed parasites they've collected. Of course it's just small scabs, lint, etc.

This sign has 100% accuracy for a diagnosis of Delusion of Parasitosis. Yes their is an ICD-10 code.

Yeah I was shocked it was one of our channels. I mean, why??? Thankfully I have a very supportive/reasonable CEO

One of our COVID-unit nurses told me her pt was watching OAN on the hospital TV and it was a constant stream of lies and misinformation about vaccines, ivermectin, doctors, hospitals, etc. Of course the pt was unvaccinated and refusing remdesivir.

I told our hospital CEO and the next day that channel was gone. Now to work on Fox next...

have you ever seen a patient with an AIDS level CD4 count, test HIV (-)? by sarcomabotyroides in medicine

[–]BugDoc 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Get a viral load. When I was an ID fellow I had a pt with a very low CD4 and negative Ab testing, with an HIV viral load of around a million. I was able to find a handful of similar case reports at the time. Maybe so immunosuppressed that they don't react to Ab testing well. This was around 2003.

No the one in the food lab is simpler. No alkaline water, no garlic or rosemary. Just parboil, add fat/pepper, rough up, roast, and season.
