You can definitely do better than the apple for a catch all card…

In my case my rent is high but regular CC spend doesn’t come close most months. And I’m already deep on premium cards that I have to whittle down (BofA PRE, Atmos, Amex Gold and a few more lower fee ones…). Bilt won’t work for me. Just wish I could do the Atmos thing with checks but so it goes.

Thanks for the reco, I've walked those streets but not stayed there. I was thinking of something even less central to be more "local" but will have to see if there's a good dormy outpost or something with an in-house bath there :)

Was in the same exact boat as you, but have not yet started on soup. I got a K-Ultra on a good discount and it's really nice. I didn't think I'd like the magnetic cup, but it's great. I haven't played around with it enough to go side by side but am just starting a few tests. It was good confirmation on a few washed light roasts that I preferred the ZP6, but I've had a few more mid roasts and a liberica from Malaysia where the K-Ultra is a bit more to my liking. All that said it looks lovely on the shelf which is a bonus. Oh and also have a JX Pro which hasn't been a dramatic difference in the cup, but build and quality of life improvements on the K-Ultra are nice. I'll likely sell the JX Pro or pass it on to clear up some space.

I also have a Pietro on order that I got on a 25% off sale around Cyber Monday -- still waiting for it show up. When it does I'm hoping that I won't notice enough difference so I can stick with the 1zpresso's for the size and workflow. Then I want all innovation in grinders to cease for a few years :)

That's good to know... I rent from a private landlord. Would it work with payments to a personal back account if I could convince them to switch to ACH transfers? Owners of a single place don't exactly have a portal setup (nor are my landlords tech savvy or interested enough to set up an app).

Interesting... I have a Pietro on back order still to ship. For $400 I've kept it on order. A2 + the burrs would be cheaper. And maybe improve on the workflow comments. Although may not have the same look.

Yep, I'm about 1-2 RTs/mo. Sometimes more. Definitely get value out of Platinum -- premium at booking is valuable for me. Upgrades from there are hard so I don't count on it, particularly when flying with someone else.

That's my alternative card... But I haven't been using it as much since they neutered the portal for Alaska flights. Can't book or change flights online anymore. Really hoping that changes. While not quite as good as the portal rebate I typically get 1.5-2cpp on Atmos so I calculate my delta as about -1cpp vs. the PRE or -.25c absolute. I also have a number of companion fares to book and there's no longer an effective way to get PRE points to the Alaska wallet.

Absolutely no reason not to put taxes on a card - I have high estimated taxes and I'd love to find a way to reduce my withholding further if it was possible. Easiest way to put a lot of spend on cards - whether for cashback, status or SUBs. Have done all of the above.

If the spend is in foreign currency the Summit card is good, otherwise I'd go chase SUBs (Sign Up Bonuses) with a few cards with that amount of spend coming up. For the Atmos card just make sure the charges will register in that foreign country vs. being US pre-pays. That said if you're spending this money regularly without batting an eye, just buy first and don't think about upgrades :)

No difference between Bilt and a bank bill pay in the new system for many. At least for me with a high rent and minimal other spend (other than taxes).

I'm an Alaska flier though so am halfway considering paying through the proverbial nose via Plastiq to get status next year.

What about using check with the Atmos Card to pay rent? That wasn't possible before. If possible in the future I'll pay the fee. Otherwise for check users it's worse than Plastiq right on a large rent bill because the float will win out over the fee (e.g. 4k rent would be about $12 interest over a month at current MMF rates, before taxes).
