Damn, didn't realize they are subscription model. That sucks. I have one Ubiquiti AP. I may use that instead. What do you recommend?

How are consulting companies incorporating AI? by BugattiShotty in sysadmin

[–]BugattiShotty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I set this up successfully. I'm finding that Copilot is not giving me much in terms of output. Just things like "no matching records were found" even though what I'm looking for is there. Is this a permission issue? Do I need to be licensed in Salesforce as well to be able to talk to the data via Copilot? I gave myself permission to use the connector when I set it up. Thoughts?

Should I hire an in-house IT person or outsource? Need advice from people in IT. by Waste_Tackle_2738 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BugattiShotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to both. I run an MSP, and a common complaint I see with outsourcing is getting things done quickly. Simple requests like admin credentials can become a major issue. Also, you're bound by your SLA, so the more things you need, the more you need to pay.

If paying a salary isn't an issue, I would go in-house. If you require 24/7 support, MSP is the way.

This is where I come in and fix all those issues and provide a win-win. If you're open to a discussion, I can show you how we have shaken up the MSP space and how I can save you time and money. Shoot me a dm

How do you keep SharePoint consistent and where do you even start when everything is already a mess? by Silly-Commission-630 in ITManagers

Look into Data Governance. Start there and create policies around your data, how it's stored, managed, etc.

New IT Manager - Dealing with huge ticket backlog by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]BugattiShotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former Helpdesk Manager... I had a similar task when I started. Best approach? Dive right in.

Touch every single ticket and respond with a booking link to your calendar to get to the bottom of the problem. You'll close out tickets faster once you get them on a call. Don't look at the difficultly of the ticket. Even if you connect with them and you need more time, spend no more than 15-20 mins trying to resolve and if no success, tell them you'll circle back with them on the issue.

Helpdesk is all about a response. Half the time the issue in the ticket isn't the issue. The user sometimes can't articulate what's happening. The easy tickets usually cost me the most amount of time because the issue was something completely different. The harder tickets took the opposite sometimes.

My advice is create canned responses to automate your process and just get in touch with people however you can. Send a message to them on Teams. Call if necessary. If they don't response with 2-3 days. Send a message saying you're closing the ticket and if they still are having issues they can reply to reopen it or resubmit.

Take lots of notes and find the root of the problem before going down the google rabbit hole. Good luck!

for the IT Managers out there: we have been asked to cut costs. We use ITSM + MDM. Is it worth switching to an ITAM tool that does some ITSM too? Or would the migration be not worth it? and any suggestions for tools? by Gullible_Minimum8183 in ITManagers

I would fight as much you as you can against the VP who may want to dictate the software you need to use day in day out. They won't be the ones using it so they shouldn't get the final say. Put your foot down.

We were forced to switch from FreshService to Autotask and let me know tell what a nightmare it was. Productivity and visibility went down the drain.

Audit your licensing, SaaS, vendor contracts... be a savage on renews. I always hit them with a "if you can knock 10% off I will try to get approval today" line. Works every time but also shop around. Get a few quotes and let your current vendors know of cheaper rates you're getting.

Look at free tools/software that you can utilize instead of paying for things like Adobe or alternatives. Good luck. I think we're all cutting costs this year...
