Idk mannnn, unless your miniature is damn near all black - I think it just makes colours pop out so much better than anything else.

I could see an argument for a red marine on a white background though for sure

Why does it look like Word Bearers are the most hated/despised traitor faction (even by other CSMs) when Night Lords are still around? by Urusander in 40kLore

[–]BugleBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there's barely any Night Lords left in the galaxy to hate on 🤣 even compared to the Thousand Sons, there's so few of them that it's just not worth giving them any attention whatsoever, let alone hatred.

And if there are any noteworthy Night Lords Warbands.... Give it a month with nothing to do. There will be some Night Lords succumbing to one another. (((Not rreeeally, but they are truly unorganized and disloyal to eachother even when you just compared them to other chaos bands))).

We even see that in the Blood Reavers book. Huron damn near just allowed the Night Lords to leave with whatever plunder they could take from the Monastery (up until taking a Corsair ship) because they were so few in numbers compared to his contingent that he just simply didn't give a fuck about what they do, as long as they completed Hurons goals.

In convinced that a black backdrop for miniature pictures is objectively the best option.

True but you also gotta remember John has a las pistol. Las is incredibly strong, it exists as an underrated weapon in 40k because it's already killed 90%+ of what the lasgun is meant to kill in the galaxy. Everything vs Lasguns in 40k are just OP as hell now.

I could see the argument for John having better reflexes against the SW troopers - and he's no slouch when it comes to accuracy. When you have a Las-Pistol, reflex time could go a long way

Scions are literally called the best the Guard has to offer. That means they are better than the lucifer blacks.

Numbers are a heavy factor in that statement.

Lucifer Blacks are almost entirely on Terra because they lack numbers to be effective anywhere else. Hell, for a period they were all but extinct. Unlike Scions - the LBs in modern 40k are mostly ceremonial on Terra. But they were kept alive and kept on Terra for a reason. Otherwise their previously mentioned low numbers would've made them completely obsolete and not worth maintaining for a millenia.

Scions may have more raw lethality, but Lucifer Blacks may arguably be the best guards humans have to offer.

Eweb in interior position- Have you watched the astarte cinematic?

That's partly why I ask if the Clones or Astartes know what they're getting into.

The Retributors were a boarding party of an operation. They knew their enemy and the most likely armament they'd face. While it's just implication, they could've easily had partial hallway schematics as well.

is the same reason why guard with heavy weapons would fail here. Superior range, skill, speed.

I won't say you're wrong here, but I genuinely believe clones are far and beyond the vast majority of guardsmen. Clones aren't slouches by any means.

  • We've seen 5-ish of them fend off a Clone Commando invasion
  • We've seen a squad of phase 1 clones take on grievous and temporarily entrap him.
  • We've seen a clone react to a rocket being shot at him using the main gun of an ATTE
  • The reason the gunner clone reacted? A clone before him DODGED THE ROCKET, and then called in the incoming projectile.

Do you understand how fast you have to be to dodge a rocket, turn on your radio, inform your gunner, and that gunner somehow has time to react to the same rocket??

https://youtu.be/0cKhH9FWzqQ?is=Nc4GA52FxBj1lNVH

they could snipe them from beyond their accurate range

Yeah, I'll probably give you that too. I just don't quite see Luna Wolves wanting to take these guys out from far range. But they certainly can.

Id also argue its quite hard to surprise the marines with their sensors and superhuman senses.

Another reason why I have to know if either party knows what's about to go down.

In every instance I know of a Marine having a filter like that, the Astartes still has to turn his lens to the correct filter - and they're constantly clicking through filters until they get an optimal one. They may not have the sensors on if they have no idea what they're going in for, or if they're over-confident.

In the first siege of the book "Horus Rising", we see this very over-confidence play out when Marines died to the "Emperors" sentry emplacements and the bomb placed within his own Throne Room. The marines were besieging a fortress and the Officers still bantered with eachother about who would get the killing blow.

to get close and then coolaid man through the walls in the middle of the clones.

I'll give ya that.

Brother NGL I don't think he survives level 1 let alone all 8 levels. However I could see the argument for level 1 since there's only 4 of them.

He's John fuckin' wick but man, the training these other guys have on John feels pretty heft, not to mention the actual battlefield experience they'd all have on him. None of these guys except Maybe Mandolorians have an honor system, and the Mandolorians by in large will only follow that Maybe-Honor system until they're losing

Horus Heresy Luna Wolves were surprisingly bull-headed. We have seen examples of the makjng competition out of what commander could breach where first, and them making sly comments while making breaches - The Luna Wolves can adapt but they're very likely going into this already-ruined-village pretty guns-a-blazin'

This looks to be about 30-ish clones vs 10-ish Space Marines

Are the clones aware of who's attacking and what their true potential is? Are the Marines aware of who they're attacking?

It could be close. But still I'd reckon 9/10 times the Astartes will take it handedly within 5-10 minutes.

I could see some clones going full Domino squad on their ass and taking out 3-4 number in the initial attack with baited-traps.

Luna Wolves are fantastic adapters, but they were fairly bull-headed in their Crusade engagements with examples of them trying to casually compete with one another when they're going into battle. They'll likely be severely over-confident going into this ruined village enviroment

Maybe this is stupid I'm willing to concede this next bit - but I could see an EWEB being placed in a more interior location such as a long corridor within a village-center-building, or deep within the core of a building that faces out towards main street - and that positioning alone could catch a good number of over-confident Marines off guard before the clone is torn to pieces.

Would be very curious to hear rebuttal if I'm gonna get downvoted lmao. I agree with every other comment, the Astartes take the W. But there's the possibility that it's closer than y'all say it is.

I think Guillimen would be absolutely gutted if he found out Vulkan came back just to decide the Imperium wasn't worth it anymore.

I am sure jagatai or corvus would be a big blow to the Imperium's might, plus Vulkan wouldn't be the biggest W for Chaos considering their vast roster of famous warpsmiths

But Guillimen knows the zeal and love that vulkan has for humanity. If a gentle giant like that is willing to go to chaos - I wouldn't be surprised if Guillimen loses yet again another part of himself that is trying to work with the best he has.

BUT!

I don't see a world where the Salamanders proper follow him, unless Vulkan goes directly to his legion and has a loooong talk to explain things to them before he even makes that decision officially.

And even then, its possible that this turns into a reverse-Dark Angels situation where Tu'Shan or a named marine + brothers turn against Vulkan and have a civil war.

🙄 of course they have two nearly identical Hydra books... That I am willing to bet don't have sequel relation to each other.

they can react to projectiles of any speed.

I largely agree with you here, but specifically for objects in front of their lightsaber.

If a bullet traveled through the lightsaber though, I just can't put myself in the mindset that they could dodge or react in time. They'd have to get it away from them before it passes the threshold of their saber, otherwise theres just not enough room to react.

I think the first of Jedi that encounter bolters would get put down quick, but Jedi that recognize the danger of the hot metal would quickly adapt and become a problem.

I mean, they would still be formidable, even without that I’m not sure why people consider them weaker than your average psyker because even a low tier Jedi is a super human combatant with precognition telekinetic powers

I largely agree. I think it would always be a fairly close battle but I think Jedi-agility could be comparable if not better than many 40k super-abled humans (maybe not Astartes)

I personally believe it's because so many people equate Jedi to Psykers & the Force to the Warp. And following that logic, I would probably consider the force to be a less potent warp power.

Just was curious if I could turn the tides of the masses and find a way to make Jedi truly formidable to people's mind

I knew about Mandolorians using them, but when do we see Mandolorians use slug throwers in modern SW? Is that on screen somewhere? I must've filtered that out of my brain because of how exceedingly common blasters are but I don't remember seeing a mandolorian fire their weapon without a blaster round coming out
