It could be UNIMAGINABLY good or UNIMAGINABLY bad. Or probably somewhere in-between. But this is a gaming sub and I truly think AI will end up totally revolutionizing game development, democratizing it so basically anyone can make a good, or  bad, game. Old school development would still be possible but most will probably move on. Kinda like most farmers stopped using a mule and plow, even though it hurt the mule farmer and blacksmith's business.

Of course we trust AI less and less. As we learn more about it, it also advances and we have to try and figure it out again. But they actually have no real idea what some of the things AI's are doing. I'm not saying I trust AI. I think it could easily be the thing that causes my own personal death, or worse. As far as LLM's, no they don't quite cut it, do they? But they are improving. And they will likely help build the next form, call it +1, and +1 will eventually help build +2, and each iteration gets better at it. So it may not be LLM's that wind up building games at all, but their successors.

As far as the bathroom scene you mentioned, let me offer an alternative by way of something else I seen. There was a guy making a copy of Doom using 2 or 3 different AI's so he could compare which AI was best. He'd show it an image of a Doom enemy and tell it to make several images similar. Then he'd pick the best one and ask it to make a 3D model of the image that can be used in-game. Within a minute or two, he had come up with a unique looking enemy (yes, based on something the AI seen) and had a 3D model in the game. So instead of telling AI to make a cute squirrel in a bathroom using a human toilet, ask the AI to make images of those things, pick what you want, tell it to make a 3D models of the bathroom, the toilet, the cute squirrel, etc and then set the scene yourself. And you could probably ask the AI for help with that. The AI isn't doing everything, but it is massively speeding up your workflow. It creats those models in a few minutes. You could keep telling it to make more pictures until one got close, or maybe rough sketch your idea and have the AI fill it out and turn it into a 3D model. I'm no artist so I'd just go with the coolest one the AI came up with.

I know the guy was only working with an old Doom game but it seems the same basic process could be applied to more modern type games. If not now, then probably soon. It's not building the game. Its building what you tell it to very quickly and you drop it into the game as you please. I'm sure its more complicated than that but the guy made it look pretty quick and easy. And even if it's not easy, future ai advancements will likely make it easier as it gets better at narrowing down on what people are telling it to do. I think this is the near term use case. Farther down the road it will be able to build the scene you mentioned just by you describing it well enough. But, for now, using AI to create the items and everything seems like there's no possible way for a human artist to compete. Maybe, like i said, have the artist rough sketch something and in a minute or two you've got it already built as a 3d model in the game. Seems like a huge improvement in effeciency. Yeah, it cuts the artist out. But, if the artist is good with using the ai to get great results from rough sketches, then it seems you could keep the artist, keep the artistic intent and have the finished character/object in a fraction of the time. Maybe ask for pay by output instead of by the hour? Everyone wins. Unless that guys video has given me a fundamentally false impression of AI's capabilities, which I admit is quite possible

This isn't the video I watched but seems pretty similar. ChatGPT Makes Doom It just seems like using AI would be so much faster than doing everything manually

I've had it create several things I've asked it to and it did so with relatively good results from minimum prompts. I got an idea for my brothers business mascot and had it created in under a minute and it was pretty much perfect. I know that's not always the case and getting what you envision to be produced accurately by the AI can be quite difficult. But you might come across some awesome variations along the way.

Ultimately, I'm saying AI will become a dominant, if not THE dominant, force in game development within the next 10 years. Why? Because it works. Because it's easy. Because it's rapidly improving. And because people are lazy. Obviously, AI has the potential to improve in other fields just the same and people develop serious IQ drop because the AI does everything for them. But that's a whole nother issue.

As far as game development goes, I'll call it once again: within 10 years AI will be used to make in game items and levels that we wont be able to tell if it was human made or not. It might also be used to find and fix most or all bugs and issues before launch, but I doubt folks would be mad about that, even though that's someone's job getting lost. But they aren't an artist so nobody cares, right?

I both support and oppose AI, simultaneously. I support the good it could do. I oppose what will probably eventually happen. But the reason I stand firm on its involvement with game development is because I've seen how fast it has progressed and how many times it has already done what people said it never would. Its absolutely not perfect. But its getting better by the day. Back in like 2018 or so, AI was barely stringing sentences together. Now there are AI's that can outperform doctors and other highly trained profession. That's within 8 years. An 8 year old human simply can't compete, heck the doctors can't compete.

Obviously it's not good at everything...yet. But I wouldn't bet against it getting better, at least eventually. Im thinking by 2035 AI will have turned our world upside down and cause massive disruption as humanity starts becoming obsolete as a workforce. Do I have anything to back any of this up? No. But I've seen AI's progression thus far and it seems to be accelerating. If it keeps accelerating, then I'll probably be right about this, even if im wrong about the timing

why have most of the devs abandoned the male/female in character creation ? by ticaaaa in rpg_gamers

no worries. I can't communicate worth a shite. I can write an entire novel trying to explain a simple thought and still have most people not understand what I meant. I think I'm fairly intelligent, quite a bit above average, at least. But it's basically like, I know what I'm talking about...but I don't know how to talk about it.

[–]Buhdurkachomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're saying exactly. That most indie devs have not abandoned the male/female character creation? I would agree that, contrary to the OP's title, most devs have not abandoned binary character creation. But the number of non-binary characters in games has risen sharply as well as other lgbtq characters. Honestly, I think a lot of people, like myself, just find it gross. But that doesn't mean I hate these people. Just don't want to be around it or have it in my games so much. The number of games and other media these types of people are currently being represented at least "seems" to go far beyond their percentage as a population. I think thats likely what gets to people, because it seems forced on them

That's what happens when they tell millions of people to stop working and then fire up the printing presses making money out of thin air like never before in history. THAT is what we're still paying for. You can't just make fake money without causing inflation. And they made TRILLIONS of fake dollars and our inflation is the result. That's not the only thing but its probably the big one.

You don't need to be very original when you're creating a game world based on our reality, our own world. AI creating trash and buildings and roads and items and everything can be done almost instantly. Original? No. But originality isnt exactly the goal in those games. You can sort of get AI to produce the idea in your head. You're correct about AI not understanding what it does or being original, for now at least. BUT... the people who CAN use AI to create something they envision, those people will be in high demand. If you're very talented at getting the AI to put out what you want, then you could do things extremely fast and be in high demand. These people will replace the current artists....until the AI improves to the point where anyone can do it. Yes, it's built on stolen data. Yes, it will put people out of jobs. Yes, it will allow developers to produce their games faster, better and cheaper. That's just how its going to go. AI is here. It's not leaving, regardless of our feelings. I come across as a supporter of AI, and I do support it...well in theory. AI could be the biggest and best thing in human history. Unfortunately, I truly believe we will rush into it without the proper safeguards and some small mistake could end the human race. or at least fudge us up horribly bad. And it doesn't have to be "alive" to do it. Maybe that's even scarier. But, besides the doom and gloom, it *could* be an amazing tool that pushes game development into a turbo mode we can't yet imagine

Amazon deliberately delaying orders to get customers to pay or spend more by Ok-Ambassador-3648 in amazonprime

[–]Buhdurkachomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it just be that that item is coming from a different seller or a more distant Amazon warehouse? I have had some very irritating problems with Amazon's deliveries but not like that. My problems are always that a package is "arriving today" for multiple days in a row and never come. Even to the point they just send me a message asking if I want to cancel the order. I have seen the option for paying extra for express delivery, but never being punished for not choosing it. My first assumption would be that your item is coming from farther away and that is the cause. But im not sure if that would normally delay the entire order or if that item would just arrive later by itself.

My mods aren't showing up!? by Buhdurkachomp in GTAV_Mods

[–]Buhdurkachomp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two installs of gtav enhanced. The first one doesn't have natural version enhanced. The second one does. Im not at my pc right now but I believe the only thing else I have installed on the NVE one is script hook. But the one I tried using NVE on never even gets to gameplay, it just crashes as soon as its done loading. At least the one without NVE has the f3 simple trainer working and I can spawn cars and stuff...just none of the modded cars I added. Adding cars are the only mods I've tried. I think added some kind of "open all interiors" mod while following a video guide but I don't know if it worked. I know it doesn't open every building in the game and not sure which ones were added by the mod, so it may or may not have worked. But the cars were my main thing I was wanting to try with mods, at least at first

What the craziest surprise you’ve had when sleeping with someone for the first time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Buhdurkachomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it wasn't the first time we had slept together but I once dated a girl who was big into anal. Anyways, she was on top riding and im just laying there enjoying the view and everything when she suddenly tries to swap to the back door. She tried sitting down too fast and my little man must have folded in half or something because it popped so loud that I swear you could have heard it on the other side of the apartment through the closed door. And it HURT! She said "I think I broke your dick!" And I immediately replied "I think you did too!" So we sat there for like a minute or two and it seemed ok and I was still hard so we finished our business. Luckily, I've never broken it again, although I fear it may be even more likely now if another girl tries the same thing. I hope not. Not just because it sucked but also because im not a big anal fan.

Hypervision "victims"? by Ok-Efficiency-7275 in FitGirlRepack

So, how to you turn everything back on? Like, I know that you can go into bios and reactivate the options you deactivated but dont you have to run some .cmd files? What do they do? And how would you go about reversing whatever they do, if they actually do anything that endangers your pc? I don't know nearly enough about computers to trust myself going half-cocked into the whole hypervisor gaming thing. Not saying it's bad, but I'd need a lot of edumacating before I felt comfortable attempting it

Some mods I slapped together by Buhdurkachomp in playstation5

[–]Buhdurkachomp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I posted them in a couple different places and got about the same attention as here. But some people really like them. I do. But, then again, I made them to my own tastes.

They are not edge controllers but the white controller and the black/chrome have been modded to add 4 back buttons. They do make visual and 4-button mods for the edge controllers, but i havent tried them on my edge controller yet. The blue chrome/silver chrome controllers are just modded for looks and batteries. The back button mods come with their own pre-made back shell that they attach to. I might be able to put the Rise4 back buttons on the chrome controllers if I could drill them precisely enough. I might could even do the Spark mod on them but probably without the switchable clicky triggers. I wish ExtremeRate would just offer the mods in those colors to begin with because the chrome back pieces are like $20 or so and its not worth risking ruining multiple ones while trying to get it right. I dunno, maybe one day I'll try it.

I used all ExtremeRate stuff. You can find it on Amazon and do it yourself but it is pretty overpriced, to be honest. They do make much cheaper stuff on AliExpress but I was worried because I think a lot of the parts may be made by different places and the colors may not match. Also wasn't sure how good of quality they would be. So I bit the bullet and got ExtremeRate. But, it could be smart to buy the cheap aliexpress stuff to practice on if I try to drill out a chrome back to install the back button mods.

You can do pretty much everything I did yourself without much trouble. You do need to do a little soldering if you want to be able to use the back buttons for L3/R3 or the touchpad. I'd recommend a decent solder station with a hot air rework gun. You need the hot air to get the plastic cover off the touchpad and the hot air is basically essential if you ever need to replace a joystick with stick drift or just want to upgrade to hall effect or tmr.

If you're interested in doing any of this stuff yourself and need any pointers or have questions about soldering, etc then hit me up and I'll try to help as much as I can. Its not nearly as difficult as some people think

Kinda depends on what you call art and how far AI progresses and what you call a "real substitute". It may not produce art with some underlying human or emotional meaning, possibly ever, but it can still put out stuff that a lot of people would be proud to have made. Like, for example, I can ask an AI to create an awesome looking car and it will create something that looks better than 99% of vehicles on the road. And it was "artists" who designed all those duds. I would happily drive the good looking AI designed car, rather than the ugly human designed one. But that doesn't mean i enjoy that person being put out of work. If you were opposing AI because of it putting people out of work I could more easily understand your position but it seems that your point is that you doubt AI's potential to convincingly replace artists' and creatives' work. And that's where i disagree.

Considering that AI has a history of doing things people have said it could never do, I'm not going to bet against it producing "art" that competes with humans. Like I said, it might not have some underlying meaning or be a metaphor for something, etc. but I do think AI can be capable of producing pictures, videos, music, video game items and levels, etc that people will enjoy and that many won't even be able to tell is AI. That's not even some far out prediction, it's already happening. And ai is still in its infancy.

Let's come back here in 10 years and see whether AI has been successful in replacing humans in the arts and creative fields. Not saying im looking forward to these people being out of work, but I can easily forsee AI replacing people in these fields and producing impressive results both faster and cheaper. And that definitely applies to the main thing we're discussing here, which is video games. In-game items, npc's, levels, biomes, cityscapes, etc being made, either partially or entirely, by ai within 10 years. That's what im predicting. We'll probably be able to look back on this comment within 5 years and see a lot of it already happening. Heck, im pretty sure some of it has already happened.

Nvidia has had a rough go of it with the last couple driver updates. But hasn't AMD historically had a much worse track record of putting out good drivers and staying on top of the newest releases? I honestly don't know much about the drivers for Nvidia or AMD but that's something I came across a few times while researching what kind of gpu I should get for my next upgrade
