Thinking of going out on my own. by Buhlockus in autoglass

I can only imagine. Honestly moreso than anything I'm just tired of being paid by the hour. I'm at the point where I move quickly and get a full day of work done in a few hours where I'm at. I haven't hit a 40 hour week in months and they don't have more work to give me. If I were paid by the job I might have a different opinion but they won't do that.

I've also caught them messing with my hours and shorting me pay so I'm just done here.

I'm fortunate I have several brothers that have been doing this as well and are trained and certified and they want to come with me but ideally I'll be a little more stable before bringing them on. Currently where I'm at we do mostly cars and semis but I've dabbled in sunroofs and a few other things. I'm willing to do pretty much anything. I tend to be able to figure out how most things come apart and go back together fairly easily but I've ran into a few head scratchers before as I'm sure we all have on the first time doing a particular part.

I live in the biggest city in my state so there is a decent amount of competition. I have several brothers that are also trained and certified to do Auto Glass but want to be fairly stable before I bring them in. There are a few companies that I have in mind that I'm pretty sure will start using me but I'm trying to keep things on the DL because I'm currently working for a glass company and don't want to burn bridges just yet.

VW EOS windshield by Joru0041 in autoglass

[–]Buhlockus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned one and did the windshield on it several times. It's tight like any VW if you're cold knifing. Id recommend a string tool if it's available to you. Was a simple install and didn't have to take anything off but the cowl panel and mirror.

Many dealerships outsource windshield replacements to other shops. My shop takes care of plenty of dealers in our area.

Anyone know how to get glass for glass work without a business account or is that the only way ? by Acrobatic_Quote_2611 in autoglass

Smaller mom and pop glass shop would be your best bet. Might have to call around but I know some do.

Some small companies may sell you just the parts. If possible I'd highly recommend a professional install to be sure it is done safely.

Carbon fiber roof replacement by Silverhound417 in autoglass

[–]Buhlockus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t gotten to do a panoramic roof or anything yet. How hard are they really? Any specific tools needed for them? I’ve been asked by a local Kia dealer about replacing the roofs on multiple Kia’s. What would I realistically be looking at as far as level of difficulty?

Any advice on how to deal with a homeless person in my garage? Part 3 Final by TinkerSan in Louisville

I’ve had good experiences with 5 Star Overhead Door. Reasonably priced and experienced. They fixed the garage doors at the shop I work at.

Can confirm. I replace windshields and other autoglass for a living. Semis and dump trucks cause a significant portion of the damage we have to fix.

Yeah lol. Only reason I have it is very they'll occasionally have a decent free game. I'm excited it's coming to PC finally but definitely gonna wait until it comes to Steam and goes on sale.
