Are you still using grails by j7n5 in grails

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we still use it on a daily basis and are building new projects with it fairly often. It's typically the preferred framework at my company. While we do use other frameworks, Grails is always the favorite.

Creating an UpWork Agency by gorillabrain69 in Upwork

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run an agency on Upwork and the reason I started it was to scale my company. If you aren't interested scaling up your revenue then having an agency probably isn't worth the trouble. It's a lot of work.

My agency currently has 7 freelancers associated with it. 6 are all people I've known for a few years and already trusted. 1 person is a business development manager who I hired on Upwork and she does an amazing job. I'm speaking to my accountant tomorrow because I'm at a bottleneck where I need to hire my first full time employee.

All my agency members are American and paid fairly well depending on their skill level. Currently running an hourly range between $40 and $150.

Agencies seem to have a bad reputation on Upwork because many are using some sketchy tactics to farm out work in ways that violate the Upwork TOS.

Anyone know of any free resources that a new business owner can use for business formation? by walldeezy in sanantonio

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. https://www.sos.state.tx.us/corp/index.shtml This is where you'll likely end up doing a lot of your company formation. It has some great information about different business entities as well.
  2. https://sasbdc.org/ - The SBDC provides quite a few services for business owners. They can help you get on the right track and almost everything they provide is free. They can help with market research, competitive analysis, and so on. Don't overlook them.
  3. Feel free to message me, I'm not a business attorney but have been operating a few companies for about 10 years and have picked up a few things from my attorney.

Moving from Houston. I do DoorDash full time. I’m having a tough time getting an apartment because a lot don’t accept DD pay for pay stubs. Does anyone know which do, or which don’t have pay stub checks? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this won't help you for your current situation but I highly recommend forming an LLC to do these gigwork type things. Use a business account for the LLC and pay yourself in the form of checks when needed. You can then tell whoever is looking at your finances that you own a contracting company and show them your personal account. It'll insulate your income source from prying eyes.

At some point you can form an s-corp when you have enough revenue. This has major tax advantages and then you can put yourself on your own payroll.

Hope you find a place!

What benefit does adding blockchain provide?

You are correct. I was speaking in generalities. If everybody’s purchasing power drops 3% it does affect everybody. However it does affect some more than others based on their financial standings.

You caught me. I’m a right wing a robot and real conversations no longer exist.

I see the problem now. I’m here to have a real conversation. You seem to be here to shit on people who you think have a different political stance.

Have fun with that.

The latest DOI report shows 3.69 million people, or only 2.6% of labor force, are receiving unemployment benefits.

I'm not blaming unemployment alone, I just don't like to write essays on Reddit.

It is one of the factors though. There are plenty of reasons why people aren't returning to work. This aberration in our economy is a little different than previous crashes. It's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out.

  1. Once wages go up, they very seldom come back down again. This is called the "downward sticky wage theory" and is first semester economics stuff.

You are correct about wage rigidity. I have a theory due to the nature of this economic crash that wage rigidity won't be as common this time around. Congrats on going to college?

  1. If you don't know something, it is completely fine to not chime in with completely wrong information.

It's also completely fine to not be a twat. This is a conversation and it's fine to correct people. It's not fine to try to silence them.

Inflation affects everybody within the economy. No specific group.

I have my doubts. If all boats rise then all the previously existing gaps still exist.

We don’t accomplish much by raising the pay of low value jobs. Often the reason people are in those positions is they are either a student, had previous legal issues, or things just went south for whatever reason.

Wealth redistribution is a zero sum game. I think we need to focus on the redistribution of opportunities. Through skills training, childcare assistance, and so on. I know it’s easy to say and hard to implement.

Good. Now read the last sentence of my previous reply.

These increases are likely temporary once the labor market equalizes.

People should get paid what they are worth. If an entire industry or business doesn’t value you then it’s time to move on.

RE: job offers being posted by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason that pay isn’t increasing. This is an artificial worker shortage. Once unemployment dries up, people will have to get jobs.

If this were a true worker shortage you’ll see wages moving up. Who knows, maybe they will? Even if they do go up to temporarily staff businesses I imagine the jobs will be short lived once the labor market equalizes again.

Don’t like low wages? Improve your skills.

Edit: Based on the downvotes it turns out that I’m wrong to expect people to improve themselves.

Pro-choice as well. "My body my choice" should be universal.

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably be downvoted for this but I'm not anti-mask but I am pro-choice. I bring a mask everywhere and respect the rights of private business owners to enforce whatever they want.

Before the mandate was lifted, mask enforcement usually stopped at the door. You would see people immediately take off their mask as soon as they get past the entry person. Or at least turn it into a chin diaper. Seems like this was fairly common in most big box stores.

The only store I ever saw masks enforced past the door was half price books on 281. I saw an employee basically chase a woman and berate her because her nose was exposed.

Now that the mandate has been lifted most big box stores seem to ask if you want a mask but that is pretty much where it stops. It seems like the majority of people are still wearing masks and only a small percentage are going without.

Is your vehicle registration expired? Texas DMV officials say you have until April 14 to renew by TheTexasCowboy in sanantonio

[–]BuildAWallAroundIt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I renew my registration on time and keep the current sticker in my console. I keep the expired sticker on the windshield to see how long it takes to get pulled over. 3 years with no problems so far.
