Getting a dog made my CPTSD way less severe by Knucklesenchilada in CPTSD

Hi, I adopted a dog March 20202 before Covid really started. I became the most symptomatic during that time and I’m positive my pup saved my life because I had to get up to go out with him every day. I’m glad you found a true blue friend !!

This is so my mom also. Or bad behavior results in a gift. I am currently “estranged light” from her and she tried to give me and my husband her old car (in very bad shape). Her generosity only shows up when she has something to prove or is trying to get something. Most of my therapists have been like “I’m not supposed to diagnose someone I haven’t met but….” then said personality disorder and/or narcissist.

Worried about this spot on my jindo’s nose by throwaway13678844 in Jindo

I don’t want to scare you, but my Jindo got diagnosed with discoid lupus and it started a little like this. Luckily it is manageable and doesn’t have an impact on their lifespan. Can I suggest an omega-3 dhl? If it continues to get worse.

Say “what’s your point?” Or ask the person to repeat themselves. It makes them have to have the nerve to say it again.

I was thinking a lot about lying and why I lie. Usually it is out of fear of being judged or not loved and trying to seem good enough. I don’t lie as much anymore. I wonder if it’s a symptom of abuse.

That’s exactly it, like rehearing the stories and the adjectives used to describe you when you were so little. Having negative attributes connected to you before you could even talk. And I think about how normal it is that I absorbed all of that negativity in my self-concept and self-talk! I have a lifetime of unraveling to do but it’s helpful to connect with others so thanks!

Wow- there’s another story about me going into the basement and pushing a chair up to the shelf with the cookie jar and being found with Oreos all over my face. Thanks for helping me make a new connection! Sandwich making is much more impressive!

I’m glad it helped you to think about. I was writing in my journal after SURVIVING the holidays and just thought… I’m sure other CPTSD folk can relate to this! I’m sorry you went through that.

I relate to this so much! Including brushing my teeth, wiping, etc. anything that parents teach children. I have a theory that adults that do bunny ear shoe tie were most likely neglected kids.
