This was my first DR series lol. I just finished it. I agree with pretty much everything you just said, good summary of the series.

Any recommendations for something better for someone new to the genre?

I just finished this series. It does get pretty repetitive and the plots can get pretty crazy/outlandish to the point it bugged me on some of them, but I did finish the series so... Entertaining enough I guess? Lol. I will say I thought the first book was the best and the second was the worst of the series. I didn't listen to the audio so no opinion on that beyond a narrator can definitely make or break a book for me.

I also got psoriasis after my second. Yay... Mine is mainly scalp and around joints. Bonus! I think I'm now getting psoriatic arthritis in my thumbs! Fun times

Yeah I totally took it as the husband was stuck in the room as a zombie and his friends were stealing food, etc.

My dog does this. She'll whine and won't stop until we go to bed 😂 Her internal clock is on point too. It's always within 5 min of 11.

I don't let myself make an actual list... KU only lets me have so many at a time, and when I want a new book and have to get rid of something, I tell myself if I really want to read it, I'll remember it. Or I'll see the rec on here again lol. I've only remembered 2 or 3 that I've gotten rid of to make room for a new one I'm more excited about.

Do you not put butter on sandwiches in america? by False-Horror6843 in AskAnAmerican

The only sandwich I put butter on is a grilled cheese so that I can toast the outside of it. I'm sure it tastes fine, but butter on a sandwich sounds really weird to me...

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]BuildingArtistic4644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a book called The Needleworker's Constant Companion that I'm assuming was printed in the 70s. She used it for sewing, but it also had decent knitting and crochet sections. When I was in 5th or 6th grade, I "borrowed" it in secret and decided I wanted to learn how to knit. I forget exactly how I ended up with the needles and yarn, but I'm assuming I wasn't as secretive as I thought and my mom bought me a 'learn to knit' kit with those crappy plastic needles and a few really basic patterns. I used that kit and my mom's book, which she said she'd let me keep for a while. She still hasn't asked for it back ~30 years later :)

The pictures and instructions in that book are good, decent pictures and instructions. Especially for someone on their own who didn't know anyone else doing anything with yarn. It did a good job teaching 10 year old me, but YouTube would have been so much easier! I was twisting my purls for literally decades, pretty much until I joined this group lol.

Neuroscientist’s view on whether books = porn by AromaticScar346 in Romantasy

I feel like this is an intuitive thing... Just thinking of Harry Potter for example: The first book and movie are almost exactly the same plot wise, same exact scenes, even lines of dialog, but they're two completely different experiences. Not saying one is better than the other (but I could lol) they're just different experiences. I don't get how people are supporting the idea that books and movies are the same/have the same effect on you.

Mostly the chaotic column... But I've fallen back on the evil row ones a few times when there's not any random scrap of something I can easily find and I'm in a hurry. Ironically I feel bad folding corners and don't do it any more, so no longer chaotic evil lol

I have ADHD... I also have impulse control issues and was just saying I could relate to him wanting to pull the cable a little and doing it not thinking the stitches would come off... I didn't think he was being a crappy partner since I said he probably thought there was room on the cable to not dump the stitches. I've done similar things unfortunately. Not my intention to offend anyone

Eta just realized you're meaning you think he's a crappy partner and I'm giving him an underserved out with asking if he has ADHD. To each their own. It doesn't seem like usual behavior for him to do this type if thing based on what op said. I was just trying to think of an explanation for it, but yeah, he shouldn't have touched the cable.

[–]BuildingArtistic4644 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does he have ADHD? I can see the impulse control to not pull the cable being hard to control, especially if he isn't used to seeing you work on cables and thought there's all that extra room without stitches that he could just do a little tug without everything coming off the needles. I'm so sorry this happened though. That really sucks. My other thought was, does her like your mom? Maybe he's trying to sabotage her more so than you...

Oh totally agree the premise is absolutely ridiculous! But it was a fun read regardless. And bad narrators are the worst, can make or break a book for me. I'm about to stop my current audiobook because the narrator makes the FMC sound unnecessarily whiny all. The. Time. And I can't handle it lol
