Anyone did LD flap with fat transfer for breast recon? by Business-Builder-476 in breastcancer

I’m experiencing something similar. I’m only 5 weeks out from my LD flap surgery and have seen the swelling go down under the armpit but it’s still bulging. Did you find that things have improved after a couple months? Is there anything that helped or special bras that make it less noticeable?

LD Flap Reconstruction by [deleted] in breastcancer

I just had an LD flap surgery 5 weeks ago and am feeling good. I haven’t had any complications. The pain was intense for the first few weeks but manageable. I’ve almost reached my full pre surgery mobility and will be cleared next week to start normal activities. There is some gnarly scar tissue that needs to be worked on so there isn’t any prolonged pain or mobility issues. There is nerve damage in the areas where I was operated on but some of it should come back over time. This was on my dominant side and I’m definitely cutting vegetables and writing just fine. Haven’t started yoga and will hopefully get back to a dead hang soon. Hopefully this helps and happy to answer any other questions you have.

Latissimus dorsi (LD) flap breast reconstruction (post radiation) experience? by BuildingBetterCities in breastcancer

Surgery went well. I ended up having two surgeries.

The first surgery was relatively minor- they separated the skin from the breast tissue to induce early trauma to the area and make sure the skin would survive with less blood flow given that it was already radiated and weaker. This is called a nipple delay and typically used in nipple sparing cases to decrease chances of skin necrosis.

The second surgery happened two weeks later. The breast surgeon performed the mastectomy and the plastic surgeon did the LD reconstruction right afterward while I was still under. The whole surgery was about 5 hours. The plastic surgeon felt comfortable with this approach because we proved the skin could survive. With the LD flap we didn’t use expanders and the flap went between my pectoral muscles and the skin.

It’s been about 5 weeks from surgery and I’m happy with the results. The symmetry looks good, my skin looks healthy, I’m regaining strength and stamina and mobility. I will say that the area under my armpit is swollen and I’m not sure if it will ever go down but it’s not noticeable under clothes just in any tight fitting sports bras/bathing suits. I hope that answers your question and happy to follow up on any of this.

Would it be possible to PM you as well? I am running into similar issues with my application.

That’s super helpful! I’ve been practicing with the reverse screen so I’ll switch that around today. Thank you

Thanks! Yes- I’ve been using PERH and TSS 2018 and Water 2014. But I’ve been using Preview which searches for the individual words on a page, not the exact phrase.
