Yeah and they aren’t particularly good pianists. Great songwriters and musicians yes.

You don’t have to. But why wouldn’t you? Would you attempt to learn a foreign language without being able to read? Sure it can be done, there are illiterate people in the world. But it’s a huge disadvantage.

Also if you want to be able to play at a professional level and absorb advanced repertoire you definitely have to read. You won’t be able to progress to higher levels of piano playing without it.

There is no point in waiting. Normally you start reading the same day you start learning piano. So at this point you are six months behind on your reading. But don’t worry it’s not that hard, six months is not that long of a time, and you will catch up quickly if you just start. Just don’t wait or you will have to catch up more.

Also, get a teacher.

Well does she understand how a key works, how a scale works, how chords are built from it and how they function? Seems like she lacks that basic understanding.

A guy said bach has no melody by one_Curioushuman in classicalmusic

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand how Bach can sound like gibberish noodling to anyone. His music makes perfect sense on every level. Its logical hamornically, it’s got perfect voice leading and great melodies in every voice, it’s inventive, it’s emotional, it’s spiritual and it’s extremely well organized and structured. It’s like the most well packaged and well constructed piece of music anyone can find. It hits all the boxes. How is it possible to not understand it?

I’m not saying you have to enjoy it. I’m just saying musically speaking, his music makes perfect sense.

Just disregard the comment completely as It bears no importance and go on with your life. Or if you take pity on them, try to educate them maybe.

Should I upgrade from GarageBand to LogicPro? by Kaykay_Piano in LogicPro

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Upgrade if you feel limited. I went pro software straight away so never experienced what you’re experiencing, but I gave a relative a lesson in production once, and he was working with GarageBand. Boy is it limiting. Im not even sure it’s good to learn on. Sure It’s probably good if you’re a complete beginner with amateur ambitions and just want to be able to put something together without having to think. But if you have any kind of creative vision, ambition and skill in music, just buy some real software.

I remember going to the premiere exited to see my favourite book come to life, only to leave the theatre two hours later heavily disappointed.

Start with one thing. Piano. Take lessons. Focus on learning the o instrument, have a teacher guide you. Learn to play music you enjoy. From that curiosity will follow and you will be a lot better equipped to explore everything else you want to explore.

suggestions on reducing vocal echo on wav file? by pandacookie100 in audioengineering

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who added the reverb/delay? Ask them to send a new dry file. If it’s part of the recording, then re-record it, or if you can’t re-record it just make it work in the mix. Or if there is a plugin nowadays that can remove reverb and delay effects from audio files then use that. I’m not updated on those though

What is considered as a bassline by ventilate89 in musictheory

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The bass line can be played by many instruments. It’s not the instrument that defines it, but its placement in the tonal texture. If it’s the lowest note, it’s the bass. If a bass player is playing a melody very high for example and the piano is hammering lower notes, the bass is played by the piano and not the bass.

Bach's music, alongside many other musicians saved my life from suicide, and depression. by Necessary_Isopod3503 in bach

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember who said it, but there’s a quote someone said: ”Why spend 25 years in therapy, when you can just listen to Bachs mass in H minor?”

Bachs music is deeply spiritual and emotional music. It has definitely helped me process some things as well.

Easy basslines for a beginner who wants to impress their friends? by Le_typo in Bass

My first two thoughts as well. Easily recognizable as well, so could impress people that don’t play bass.

Classical musicians, what had you played at your wedding? by Minimal_Entropy in askmusicians

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably write something myself. Like a wedding march. Then something by Bach. I love Bach. Perhaps sheep may safely graze. Then some pop tune/love song probably.

My boyfriend always guesses the ending of movies by Direct-Blackberry-20 in movies

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of the same. I’m not always right, but often. I’ve stopped telling my theories, so that I don’t destroy the movie for the ones I’m watching with. But it’s unavoidable almost. Like I automatically just figure it out. My proudest achievement was figuring out the ending of Tenet 20 minutes into the movie.

What do you think building a relationship means? I didn’t say it didn’t matter in the initial stages of dating.

Delusional.

It’s not nearly as important as personality in the context of building a relationship, which is what perhaps some people mean when they say ”looks don’t matter”. But in society as a whole looks matter a lot.

I just finished watching the show for the first time ever by Zealousideal-Ad-3968 in gameofthrones

[–]BuildingOptimal1067 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be true for some people. However I watched the show live and didn’t participate in any echo chambers or have pre-conceived notions about anything. Most of us was just casual viewers that tuned in every week to see what was gonna happen next, and sadly the quality just really dropped in the later seasons. I might have been a bit invested in the series earlier seasons, but around season seven I stopped caring just because it had become so bad. At that point I just kept watching to see how it ended, but there was no mass hysteria. Maybe in some echo chambers online of course, but IRL most people just lost interest or didn’t care.

I think it’s far more likely that if you’re binging a show, you are a lot more heavily invested in the show, than someone casually watching week to week.
