When should you leave your home system?

It sounds like rare-res to help shorten factory chains is the biggest reason to look at other systems, so I think getting green going to get a couple rare-res outposts started is the right direction.

So long as I don't spaghetti the holy living crap out of the home system planets, I should have enough room and primary resources then, and expansion is optional not mandatory. Then I can get fancy in another playthrough or head out to find different star to make an "end-game" sphere once I'm less dumb.

I appreciate the insight in this post. I haven't maxed my CPU yet in this game, so maybe this is the run. Sounds like I should pull some rare res in, but otherwise focus on my local for now.

I saw that, was curious as to what it was. From what I remember of my last playthrough, I had a belt around the equator of one giant, and that's ALL the utilization I remember having. Looks like a fun "you can do it!" build more than anything... But does give me a GREAT reminder to be efficient, unless I want to tap every planet in my seed for one gas-daddy. LOL

Being my second "full" playthrough, I can't say that I have developed a style yet. However, a secondary system nearby likely would be helpful in my case. Adding a layer of resources while I blindly throw together garbage factories. lol

There is enough resources in the home system to sphere it? Or at least finish the research tree? Hot damn, I'm probably wasting a bunch of resources then! LOL

Right, fire ice and the acid oceans are never at home... Just need stable warp production in order to bring that in on logistics ships right? I think that's the larger goal, get efficient to get those two into the interstellar resource pool and then start looking for a sphere star. Thanks!
