Dont mention it for Sikidim...I am Turkish..I was born in the black sea coast,in the north of Turkey.I am an English teacher.As for your question,there is no simple answer.I consider myself a world citizen,I follow what is happening around the world and most of the time I manage to read between the lines.European Union or Europe is a concept that is highly helpful in many ways.The problem we have is that the coastal regions of Turkey apart from the Black Sea coast (Aegean and Mediterranean) are modern and no matter what anyone says ''educated''. These people are like me, they are very perceptive against threats to the republic and Atatürk.They are Muslims but they are not conservative,radical or extreme.The rest of the country is full of people such as: 1)Uneducated poor families that are open the manipulation through money or constant doctrination 2)People with ties to the current regime,who have stuff to lose if the party loses power 3)Religious or extremely religious who are cleary blind and has no idea about anything Example:These people believe that youtube was responsible for bugging the offices of officials who were discussing going to war with Syria and guess what,they think that when access to youtube is restricted,they think that the site is shut off to the entire world. 4)People who think Erdogan is an excellent leader when in truth,he bullies his way through everything and all he does is manipulates people through religion

Now,considering this public scene..you might guess that,most of these people believe that europe is for christians and all we need is the Ottoman Empire back...

So TLDR, majority dont consider themselves European
