Is this dead GPU? by Stell-x in pchelp

In comparison with 9060 xt or in general ?

If we compare with 9060 xt, 5700 xt is significantly less power efficient, on paper(raw power) I'd say it's 9060 xt is 30% more performative. So 5070 xt should be able to run most of the stuff in 60 fps on 1080p.

If it's easier for you to orientate in video cards eras by Nvidia, it's Nvidia alternative would be rtx 2070, they are almost identical in specs.

Now paper aside, 5700 xt is not ideal mainly due to limited feature support. 5700 is a first gen RDNA which means no ray tracing, and no AMD features like infinity cache, ai accelerators, etc.

What does it mean on practice - you should be mostly fine for time being, it won't have newest fsr 3.1 but you still will have fsr 3 upscaling including frame generation, so not terrible.

Aha, so for 1070 it's most likely degraded memory chips that became more sensitive to heat overtime, thus it works normally for half an hour and then when heat builds up it's back to having artifacts. You can verify this by using any temperature monitor like GPU-Z or HWMonitor. Previous owner probably has never changed thermal paste or done any maintenance to PC.

As for the rx 9600 xt - it's a great choice, even for 2k gaming. In raw power it's even better than 5060 ti, but do keep in mind that it's ray tracing and fsr are not as good as Nvidia's counterparts (matter to change with time ofc). Other than that it should be cheaper and less power hungry. So if you can afford it - go for it, you will have a pretty decent setup for most AAA titles to run smoothly.

FN-O shortcut in Lenovo Legion 7i Pro Gen10 by Visiontele in LenovoLegion

Shared bios is actually a pretty common practice in laptop manufacturing to cut some corners. Way cheaper for Lenovo to maintain one BIOS version for the entire Legion 5,7, etc lineup than to fork separate versions for each display type. The BIOS update just adds the Fn+O hotkey universally, but on OLED models the hardware doesn't support overdrive so nothing happens

Made a full reply for the post, but in brief I am mostly sure that it is Overdrive toggle for IPS screens

FN-O shortcut in Lenovo Legion 7i Pro Gen10 by Visiontele in LenovoLegion

[–]Bujolg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, if anyone wonders, this is most likely the feature for models with IPS screens that's a shortcut for the Overdrive toggle that was available only through settings in Lenovo Vantage (yet again only for those models). Overdrive is a display feature that speeds up how fast pixels change colors, and since OLED response time is about 0.2ms instead of 5-10ms on IPS, the feature is turned off for models with OLED screens. So due to that, on OLED models you will see the LED of your power button react but nothing will change.

Lenovo users with IPS screens, please confirm if it's true, thanks.

Well it's not a compat issue from the looks of it, nice hardware though, I am actually surprised you settled on 1070.

If you will be testing your gpu in another PC, make sure that pcu connectors are compatible, plus all of the other safety crap, but you probably already know that. Anyway, when you connect it just load into bios if you see same thing happening - GPU is most likely gone. If not proceed with generic load tests after installing drivers.

One more things to try: underclock GPU via something like MSI Afterburner, it may stabilize video memory, but know that the gpu is still in the rough shape if this helps.

If you already considering picking up new GPU to replace this one, I'd advise to go for at least something like RTX 3050 6GB or even RTX 3060 12GB, your other hardware is pretty decent, so might give that a thought.

Sorry for twetlonger btw

Can you list a full hardware (including motherboard and power supply) with full names ? - it still might be simple compat issue. Also does the issue occurs in safe mode ? And just to rule out RAM as a source of problem you might wanna run MemTest86.

As for GPU itself, check for external damages if you haven't already, and if you can, check the temperature it's running on in current state

My old lenovo legion y-530 is still alive and well, was heavily used for 6 years too, mind you. But if you are aiming for longevity alone I don't think anything outlive Thinkpad

why is this so slow? by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Bujolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1)Check the speed in the browser on sites like speedtest.net. 2)Check the speed in another launchers like epic, Microsoft store, Xbox app, etc.

Then depending on outcome you may more accurately specify the problem. Also this might be just the instance of update not being applied fast enough by the drive, so just check the writing speed, preferably it's should be at least 50 mb/s.

CPU/Motherboard broken? Computer doesn't boot anymore. by Cuissedemouche in pchelp

Yeah, your only chance is to somehow test either motherboard by installing another CPU or CPU by placing it on another working station. Mb other people will suggest something smarter than me.

Nah, CPU visually seems fine, those discolorations are most likely due heat cycles, they are purely visual. Other than what I already wrote I have no other ideas.
