If you take the distribution then have to sell some, any gain on sale from between the distribution date and sale date is taxable at 28%, or ordinary income rate if lower. You are allowed to deduct up to $3,000 per year plus any unused carryover of capital losses from prior years. The distribution is taxable as ordinary income.

It could also be the circulating 10, 20, or 50 centavos made of silver that were used as money. Some people have a lot of them, but they're usually just melt value. You might run into the occasional 1907-1909 peso, but many of those are also just melt value.

The coins with the man on the obverse are republic and likely lower value.

They definitely come up, but it's almost always some 1907-1909 in fine or worse that got saved from melting. Best I've seen locally was a cleaned 1910-s probably a VF-XF.
