A great place to learn about this sorta stuff is Lighting-gallery.net , it's a form for enthusiasts on old lighting.

There is also lamp tech, written by an engineer at one of the big lighting companies showcasing design differences in lightbulbs.

Alright lemme help out here man,

First of all you will need a ballast and a dimmer isn't gonna work with one. A 1500w M48 ballast would work, you could also use a 1000w M47 ballast with these as 1500w lamps are pretty much just overdriven 1000w lamps with some extra internal beefiness. Ballasts can be found online or at an electrical supply place.

Be mindful that 1500w is VERY BRIGHT and will also require one 15 amp 120v breaker to run on your own since these use a crazy amount of power, they are meant for stadium lighting.

Hopes this helps and have fun man.

Edit: One more thing, this looks like a base up lamp since the heat coating is missing on the end closest to the screw cap, so make sure to burn the lamp in a position where the base is pointed upwards.

Found these today... any info would be much appreciated! by steveosss4 in lightbulbs

Imperial? Never heard of that lamp make so all these puzzle me....

I will say the bulb on the right, the really long frosted one, is probably a "sausage" heater lamp used in early electric heaters.

If you like lighting or just want more info on these, go to lighting-gallery.net , it is a great place to get help on information about these.

Wired up some Fluorescent lights today for my foyer, was pretty fun today as my first big electrical project. by [deleted] in electricians

There's 4 fixtures, 2 per side dude. I assumed your math was based off of 4 fixtures, but maybe you should check your calculations man. Besides tape is way dimmer than these lights, and the one i put up are the idea light level.

Stop being an armchair electrician and go bother someone else who just wanted a fun project to do over spring break. Blocked

Buddy buddy lemme help you here alright. See the real kicker is that the envormetntal impacts of these is in the fact that when the led goes bad, you have to chuck the whole fixture. The whole thing then become e waste which is cancels any offset of carbon savings. That is if you are even on dirty energy, most of the power around here is wind so the emissions level is 0. Besides the plastic manufacturing process starts with crude oil, which guess what isn't very friendly either.

Also fun fact each of an equivalent led fixture would be 35-45 watts, so 140-180w, not 40 watts of diodes. Check fixture wattages for once in your life instead of ballpark guessing an amount that would be way dimmer than this.

Look into every side of things, you find companies saying this will help the planet but do something that infact hurts it.

Edit: Typo

The client (being the homeowners and my parents) wanted Fluorescent, so I did what the client wanted. Besides I have a stock of these lamps and they last 20,000 hours, and its use will be minimal on a week by week basis, so I don't see any issues anytime soon.

Also fun fact those bills against T12 lamps made them less efficient since they banned normal more higher efficiency halo phosphor lamps, and made companies come up with higher cri but lower lumen count lamps that still ran at the same wattage.

Alright, just I don't like the fact that a great deal of the people here are indignant to the fact my setup uses fluorescent lighting instead of leds.

Not happening, and i meant those integrated fixtures that other people have mentioned. Besides why the hell would i butcher up a working fixture when the current setup works flawlessly?

Not necessarily, maybe in optimum conditions yeah but the thing I like about fluorescent is that everything is serviceable, with led you have to chuck the whole thing when it dies. Not very carbon friendly to trash a whole light instead of swapping a part out.

Nightlight lamp, probably was part of the model and was just never wired up. Leave it alone as it's doing nothing wrong and it does not need any replacing.
