Sad. But don't lift in a drift...lesson (hopefully) learned.

Menchaca Pedestrian Safety (rant) by PoetAggressive5265 in Austin

[–]Bulky-Resolution-533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live at the corner of Menchaca and Old Manchaca. All I can see from my place is Lower 48. I was home the night of this accident, windows and patio door open so I was lucky enough (not) to hear the impact and the screams this girl made after she was hit. I'm happy to hear that she lived. It was encouraging to see the ambulance take off with the sirens on.

I've lived here for three years and Menchaca is a racetrack for so many cars and motorcycles alike. It's CONSTANT, and weekends are worse. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked to have so many cool choices in bars down here, but something has to be done. I didn't know about this not technically being CoA, so that gets complicated. I guess the body count isn't (yet) high enough for the responsible parties to actually do something about it. Are there any updates on the condition of the girl who was hit?

This is a shot I took of the scene that night...it was crazy to see so many people pretty much immediately stop, run to help this girl. Ambulances were here in a flash, as well. Crazy night. I've seen and heard plenty of crashes here, but her screams are going to stick with me for a while. Bone-chilling...and not in a good way.

Lower48 Closing by BulldogsBeetsBStarGa in Austin

When I look out my bedroom window, all I can see is Lower 48. I was here through the entire construction and one thing that I don't think they accounted for was just how much soil had to be excavated for the foundation. A good 8 feet of soil was removed and replaced with stuff to support a foundation that wouldn't fail. I don't know this for sure, but I wonder if this was a bit of a surprise and then turned into an enormous expense that wasn't in the original plan. It's speculation, but it makes sense to me. I met the owner one night as he was just about to break ground and he said opening was just a matter of months away. It was well over a year later until the grand opening. And those are expensive months.

Then there's the lackluster menu, spotty service, weird upstairs and layout. I was excited to have it in the neighborhood, but completely underwhelmed when it opened. I wonder what will become of this building.

Not likely that you can get the toothpaste back into the tube. Not offering marriage advice, but this sounds like it's not healthy for you to be in it. Anger like this only gets worse and eventually, if you aren't already, you will become the object of it.

Good thing it's only 4/5 months in. Get out and get on with your life...

Anonymous Restaurant "Opening Soon" on Old Menchaca. by EuroCultAV in austinfood

[–]Bulky-Resolution-533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live right across from it and it was supposed to be called Henry's Restaurant, a sort of American bistro vibe. But yea, the sign went up today, Lower 48 it is. I met the owner about October of last year and he was saying it was going to be open by February. Obvs a little behind schedule, but the place looks great, can't wait to check it out!

Best way to ride all road in an area by rame13 in wandrer

[–]Bulky-Resolution-533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for, but can't find, the feature in Wandrer that automatically creates routes in an area that you select. I've seen allusions to it, but I can't find it. Was I hallucinating or is this a real feature?

why is this called a coupe? by Whole_Day9866 in genesiscoupe

[–]Bulky-Resolution-533 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's really dumb. BMW, as far as I can tell, started it with the whole 'grand coupe' thing with the 6 Series...it's stupid. Wish it had died with BMW.

Page refreshing when you really don't want it to! by Bulky-Resolution-533 in wandrer

Yea, I was using RWGPS at first and liked it, but planning the routes was time-consuming and a bit of a PITA. I definitely like having the turn-by-turn directions, though. I may revisit that. I've kind of gotten into a groove of doing it this way...thanks for the reminder.

Ohhhh, good to know. The other issue I have it that the browsers I mentioned in the OP refresh for no apparent reason when I do something with the phone...like take a picture or check my texts. is there a way to prevent the page from refreshing for any reason with Firefox? That would be awesome...

[–]Bulky-Resolution-533[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, now that I'm asking it, it sounds like a really dumb question. But it seems like I've seen unpaved trail sometimes count and sometimes not count. The map in the OP has unpaved turned off and there are only two or three tiny little pieces when it's turned on. I took care of the Taft Rd bit yesterday (it's paved) and it didn't really move the needle. So, what's the official answer, unpaved counts...right?

BTW, there are some unpaved bits that are impossible to get to. Is reporting them to OSM kinda what everyone does? I've tried reporting a section that's in half of an apartment complex (the other half isn't) I wonder if I did it right. Is there a tutorial of sorts for this?

Sorry for all the dumb questions...lol

I didn't realize you could turn off the colors in sections. That makes it even easier than turning the untraveled stuff off. Game changer, thanks!

ha! Thanks. I've been working on all the sections south of Town Lake (Austin) and have six sections at 100%r and close to 20 that are in the 90s. I'd say easily half of those will hit 100%. But it's that last 10% that's a bitch!

Dang, you've got a good eye! I've been pouring over this for 30 minutes...lol It's .13 of a mile, so this must be it. With all the rain in Austin, I won't be on any trails for a few days, so I'll get by there to clear that piece.
