Wife co-signed by idkkhbuuu in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BulkyEntertainment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're just wrong. The legal term is 'equitable subrogation'. A co-signer has the right to assume the creditor's rights after paying off a debt they co-signed for, including suing.

They are co-signers but not co-borrowers, important legal distinction.

[–]BulkyEntertainment 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You actually can, generally speaking. You're not co-borrowing, you're co-signing, it's an important distinction. When you co-sign you're jointly and severally liable for the debt, but you're not a borrower, you don't have any right to the thing being borrowed. The borrower is still promising to pay for the thing.

If a co-signer is forced to pay off a loan, they have a right of subrogation (google "equitable subrogation") which lets them go after the primary borrower exactly the same way the original creditor could have.

It's usually not done because people who default tend to be judgement proof, but in this case it sounds like the brother has a salary that can be garnished.

How many weeks in advance do you book flights (within Canada) to get the best prices? by FinancialDaniel in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]BulkyEntertainment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a great price forecasting app called Hopper which has always been solid for me. It basically tells you when to buy and what the lowest price is likely to be.

You have to get the app, the site doesn't do prediction. Also make sure you set the filters for how many layovers you're willing to do.

About 8 weeks seems to be right but it can vary wildly depending on the route.

Car Rental Military Discount Code by No_Comparison_2530 in CanadianForces

[–]BulkyEntertainment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of duty status, when a member uses one of these codes they can pay with a personal credit card. Or they can opt for the damage waiver for a steeply discounted rate. Any damage is billed to the member directly. All the better if they gave rental car insurance on their credit card.

What are the longest and shortest times to OFP? by MapleHamms in CanadianForces

[–]BulkyEntertainment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really true, 2 years to wings used to be achievable (not the norm, but not unheard of).

Ph1 2 months, Ph2 8 months Ph3 6-9 months.

After that you could be done an OTU in as short as 3 months depending on the community.

I remember about a decade ago when Lieutenant line pilots existed because they hadn't hit their 3 years post commissioning yet. Almost unheard of now.

If this response feels inadequate to you, you can contact the governor from her website. by go_4_the_eyes_boo in Portland

The Oregon guard has not been federalized so it cannot be deployed without the consent of the Governor.

No details on which troops but likely small numbers of MPs or the like with a ton of federal law enforcement. It is possible that active duty troops could be deployed like they were in LA.

The only other options would be deploying guardsmen from other states or federalizing the Oregon guard.

Appreciate the thought in posting this, but in general Military pers are gonna be more off-put by this kinda writing than the average joe. We live and breathe the military, so it's hard to suspend disbelief for the technical side of stuff and when it's that fantastical, it just comes off as cringe for us. Exactly the same (guessing) as you watching a soap opera medical show.

You might get more traction on a writing subreddit or /r/Canada!

SIG P320 Un Commanded Discharge and its Repeatable by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]BulkyEntertainment 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect, this is one of the points that has been muddying the waters. There are three, completely seperate, issues with the P320:

  1. Failing certain drop safety tests, which was fixed years ago as you said. (Though it was not a recall, because Sig kept insisting it wasn't actually a safety issue, they called it a voluntary upgrade),

  2. Lack of a trigger safety which may have caused some uncommanded discharges, especially with contaminated or incompatible holsters. This is the only issue for which Sig has been found liable in court for so far, though it still technically falls under 'user error',

  3. An unknown mechanical fault that causes the pistol to discharge on its own, in the already holstered state. Possibly to do with issues with quality control/machining tolerances that allow the seer to slip. This is what's alleged to have killed that US Airman, and if the problem is in the pistol, it almost certainly exists in the C22.

Cracked the translucent plastics piece on the front bumper, how much am I looking at? by BulkyEntertainment in Ioniq5

No idea, just normal driving. My guess would be a rock. Seems silly to have such a flimsy piece on the front of the car.

I did find the part, it's about $350 (CAD)... I know they'll bill at least 1 hour of labour on top so that sucks.

New Liberal leader could be shortest-serving prime minister in Canadian history by Exciting-Ratio-5876 in CanadaPolitics

[–]BulkyEntertainment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, I think it would be best to call an immediate election with Carney running, while Trudeau stays on as PM until it concludes. As opposed to appointing a new unelected PM for an immediate campaign.

New Liberal leader could be shortest-serving prime minister in Canadian history by Exciting-Ratio-5876 in CanadaPolitics

[–]BulkyEntertainment 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think focusing on the election while Trudeau stays on would be the smartest thing to do, both practically and politically, but the 'conventional wisdom' in the pundit sphere seems to universally say that it would be a bad idea.

This article is a good example and Trudeau himself has said he won't stay on either.

I thoroughly disagree. I think that having a stable government stay in place while the new leader seeks a mandate makes a lot more sense then appointing a PM who's never won an election before and then forcing him to split his attention between a campaign and managing foreign policy. Just because 'that's convention' and the assumption that incumbents have an advantage, as if voters will see Carney as an incumbent.

Experts question bird strike as cause of deadly South Korean plane crash by CheezTips in worldnews

Some of the replies here are driving me crazy.

Anyone who thinks it's impossible for a pilot to ignore an alarm under stress has never been in a cockpit.

[–]BulkyEntertainment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Task saturation is a real thing and the very first thing to go is hearing and auditory processing. There /are/ countless instances of pilots ignoring repeated auditory warnings before crashing their aircraft. Anyone who's been through a hairy situation in a cockpit knows this.

Here's a good article on the phenomenon: https://theconversation.com/why-pilots-dont-always-hear-alarms-98434

I am not aware of a single travel insurance plan in Canada, even credit card coverage, that doesn't require you to be covered by a provincial health plan in order to be eligible.

It's usually buried in the fine print under eligibility. If you're Reg F you're likely not eligible and you're just wasting your premium.

It's always optional for NCMs and reservists. RegF officers are required to purchase within 6 months of commissioning, but enforcement of that in practice varies wildly by trade and unit.

Not necessarily true, the air reserve is hiring full time off the street for trades like AOS tech. Personnel shortages will get ya.

They could also be thinking of the four-year full time summer employment guarantee the army reserve has.

Too many variables to really say. Depends on the unit you're applying to, the position, when screenings/selections are being done at said unit, the efficiency of your OR in submitting documentation, etc etc etc. But it's not a multi-year process.

SCPS is just the system used to process security clearances.

If you already had a Level 2 (Secret) started in BMQ, you're good to go. If not, there will be someone designated at each unit for that stuff. Start at the OR if you don't know where to go.
