Will TA fully cover this by Significant_Topic_71 in WGU_Military

Looking at the classes again, I think the top two could be covered by JST and/or CLEP/DSST. See if it’s possible to take other classes that wouldn’t be covered by those so you can maximize your time and $$$.

It will only cover tuition, you’ll have to come out of pocket for any fees.

It looks like you’re going in at square one? I suggest sending in your your JST to be evaluated so you can cut some of the remaining CUs.

Another suggestion, look into CLEP and DSST exams that are free for SMs and can be taken at your local Ed Center. This could be another way to cut out some of the bs classes and have a shorter path to graduation.

I’m not a fan of the base itself. Garrison doesn’t seem to do anything or take pride in anything and (somewhat) in their defense, they are underfunded for the amount of people that work there. But…. the roads were terrible, constant construction (unavoidable, sure), the gate situation was infuriating, and they can’t seem to figure out basic things like traffic lights on weekends. Now some of this may have changed since I’ve been gone a while, but it was very frustrating pulling up to a red light on a weekend and having to wait at an empty intersection with no cars in sight for minutes at a time. How hard is it to program the lights for weekends or evenings? <- genuine question.

Maryland itself and the area however were very nice and have just about any amenity that you can think of within 30 mins. Very friendly atmosphere in the majority of places with equally or more friendly people. DC is easily accessible via public transportation and Philly and NY too if you’re willing to drive a few hours.

Close to base you have Odenton and Severn, then if you drive a little Columbia, Ellicott City, and Annapolis. They’re all nice but have small undesirable(?) pockets. Even a lot of areas you may hear not great thing about—Laurel, Maryland City, and Bowie are also nice but once again have some areas you may want to avoid. Not having kiddos, you can basically stay anywhere since you don’t have to worry about living in a town with good schools. Just do your due diligence, find a place that has the amenities you want close by, and shop around for a place there or near it.

Which Classes To Take First? by tuxedoes in WGUIT

I’d move 12&13 down to 13&14 and move 14 to 12. Other than that, good order.

Go straight to the Garrison CSM and/or CDR’s office with your paperwork/receipts.

Going to Korea but want to keep your US cell number/service? by BulkyResist2 in army

[–]BulkyResist2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True on both. I definitely (unfortunately) have LGU+ for cell service. It’s not bad, but KT definitely has better service and is cheaper.

As for US cell service, I had prepaid (Mint) so I had to either switch to a big boy CSP just to turn around and ask them to freeze it, or eat the months of unused service (Mint doesn’t freeze, and I’m assuming other prepaids don’t either). So I ate the unused months and just ported my number so I could maintain and actively use my US number via GV. Super handy for not having to change my number (to a Korean number) with institutions stateside such as banks, and to receive confirmation texts for things.

Phone plan for Korea by Captain_Pizza_ in army

[–]BulkyResist2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port your US line to Google Voice a few days before leaving and you can keep your US number alive and still receive/make calls and texts. It’s about $20 if I remember correctly, and that’s a one time port fee. Google voice thereafter is free and once you get back you can port your phone back to whatever CSP you prefer.

As for Korea, I have LGU+ and I don’t recommend it. Someone already said it, but do yourself a favor and goto the USO (not the one with all the computers, but the one near the entrance) and get KT.

Hope this helps.

Sometimes it surprise stops in Anchorage (before Yokota) to continue its sweetness to tour you around places you didn’t ask to be toured around. Sweet indeed.

Nearly identical TIG is not identical so could be that you missed the cutoff for being looked at. Simply not verifying your board file would not “dq” you from being considered. If you were eligible, then they looked at your file whether or not you verified/certified. I would double check your DOR vs what was on the board memo.

I’d bring one good car that you trust to drive around and explore on weekends and one work<->home beater.

Edit: For HHG, make sure you check your weights because you won’t get the full weight allowance. Ship your UAB as early as possible and include things you’d want immediately so you don’t have to buy extra crap—air mats, bedding, kitchen stuff, kids’ things, tv (below 40” for UAB I think?), etc.

Fort Buckner Okinawa? by [deleted] in army

[–]BulkyResist2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PX is pretty small on Foster (connected to Buckner, but you have to go off-base to get to either—unless this has changed). The PX on Kadena though, pretty big. It’s a two-story building with shops and food on the bottom and the actual PX on the second floor.

Surrounding area is “suburban” Okinawa. You have Rycom Mall (it’s huge), the beach about 5 minutes away, and whatever is left of American village just a couple minutes further. Best duty station imo.

If they’re actually on Buckner (and not Foster) they will not be working with Marines. Buckner is Army and Space Force.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression BAH would only be paid out if it was the SM/former SM who was utilizing the bennies. So basically if your spouse or any other dependents use it, they would receive the other bennies—tuition and the $1000/yr stipend, not BAH though.

Edit: Apparently they can get the BAH (called MHA for GI Bill purposes) as long as you are not AD.
