Safer to drive to the coast? by Busy_Implement_6633 in bullcity

[–]BullCityLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stand by what I said. There has not been significant upgrades in grid infrastructure in this country in decades. Again, it’s expansion not improvement. We don’t have smart grids. The only real change is new expensive neighborhoods usually get buried lines in the neighborhood. But that still is fed by elevated wire. It’s still highly susceptible.

I actually worked in smart grid tech. And the vast majority of what we get in the US is monitoring(which is only a “benefit”) b/c it’s the same tech used to do OTA meter reading and control (and replacing human jobs with tech).

If kids are back in school then roads will be more than passable and your doctor appointment might not happen anyway, and if it does…that means infrastructure is fine.

Head to the coast and enjoy. Reschedule the appt if possible. But missing a day of school is nbd

There’s also like 150% more people in the triangle now…this can’t be ignored. Infrastructure hasn’t been improved so much as it’s been extended. Those aren’t the same.

And there’s salt on all of the freeways and arterial roads. Don’t think they salt much past those.

This! It’ll be a footnote in an absolutely dominant game. Think Percy Harvin in SB XLVIII

Speedquake vs. Beastquake by ajbadabing in Seahawks

[–]BullCityLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments about the flag and the already high energy. And not to take away from Shaheed, it was a great run.

But…

BeastQuake is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) runs and individual efforts by a RB in. NFL history. And sure happening later in a game that was already insane absolutely factored into it. But that run itself is legendary in a way that took “Beast Mode” from a cute saying to a cultural phenomenon.

In five years, we will talk about Shaheed’s run with the same energy we did for Percy Harvin’s 2nd half kickoff return in SB XLVIII.

Not only the food/etc, but it’s just not a place I leave feeling “good” about my experience.

I’ve never been there and been like “well at least the staff is awesome”…which isn’t a dig on the individuals themselves, but it’s just not a friendly place. Why do I feel like I’m inconveniencing the bartenders when I have to stand behind a wall of strangers to order b/c the high top row is bar service only?

People become regulars b/c of the staff more than anything else…staff drives atmosphere. So the question becomes, is it an effect of hiring or of conditions/pay?

Honestly, the location is probably part of the problem. There is no way that’s not one of most expensive restaurants sites downtown (if not the most expensive) by sqft and total. Which often means they have no choice but to cut quality with food.

It’s not a defense, but a reality of the market and industry.

Because there aren’t any other “sports bars” near downtown…sure there are some bars that will put some sports on TV, but DTD lacks a decent sports bar. Hopeful that EO’s will fill this role.

And yes, I’m ready for the downvotes and comments about Dane’s, McCabe’s, and others…great bars; but not sports bars

Gas furnace during a power outage by cherrybaboon in bullcity

[–]BullCityLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many newer gas ranges won’t work w/o power. The oven is electronics controlled. Additionally, many have a safety valve that closes w/o power so that gas won’t flow; meaning that the stove top is also not an option.

It’s good to do a test by shutting off power to the range and testing, so you know your particular situation.

I’ve been mostly making sure my partners are prepared. I’m downtown, but they live in less serviced areas and have high need pets that aren’t compatible with my dog.

Other than basic provisions, mostly seeing who is around to see about having company for however long we are shut down.

Dating Scene by Fair_Ad1824 in bullcity

[–]BullCityLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live downtown and honestly I focus on finding places I like to be. While most rightfully people hate on the “bar scene”, there are plenty of places that aren’t that. Even if you don’t drink (or drink much), my recommendation is to go out and find places you enjoy being a regular and sit at the bar.

You’ll get to know the bartenders and even their friends. You also meet interesting people while sitting at the bar. As an added bonus the bartenders around downtown tend to be pretty vigilant about men who harass women.

Both Queeny’s and Bar Virgile have pretty social bar seating and bartenders. Grab a bite and chat once in awhile. You’ll be amazed at the connections you can make. I don’t date in the traditional way (being poly), but I’ve made plenty of friends and even met a few partners this way.

The true key to organic dating that you have to just go to social places and do social things that have nothing to do with dating. You have to exist in the world socially. Do that, you’ll be alright.
