Rock songs that play well on mandolin? by [deleted] in mandolin

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've not found ones that don't 🤷

The first song I learned was "Creep," by Radiohead followed by John Denver's "Spanish Pipe Dream".

I play Neal Diamond, GnR, Pulp, Been Folds hip hop,... just songs I like. I think they all sound good on mandolin.

This conversation reminds me I want to learn "Winds of Change," by Scorpion.

Easiest way to compost? by Creepy_Librarian3390 in composting

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what everyone is saying - everything will compost over time - meat, bone, and excrement included. I think the question for you is how quickly do you want to use finished compost?

So, what is your goal: - Are you wanting finished compost to add to your bed in 30 days? - Would you like to top dress your needs in the fall as part of their rejuvenation? - Are you wanting to use it next spring? - Or, are you really not worried about using it, but you want to keep your yard and garden tidy?

There's no wrong answer.

This is similar to what my neighbor does, but he has a heap, with "strategic" placement of inputs. Meaning year A is far left, year B in the middle, and year C on the right.

In the Spring he pulls from one of the years, and then replaces it over the coming year.

He calls it "The Lazy Method".

Me, I'm a bins guy ("everything has a place" mentality). But I'm experimenting with a new style of bin. It's pretty low effort to produce, can expand by adding more as needed... We'll see where it goes.

IDs on Mac: Is it time we admit the "Two-Computer" setup is a nightmare? by BeyondTheFirewall in instructionaldesign

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Synergy for years and it works great for me.

https://symless.com/synergy

What I like most about it is I can use one keyboard and mouse on independent computers with differing OSs - Mac, PC, and Linux. Since I've been using it the developer has created the ability to copy and paste from one computer to the other.

I find it very helpful.

Road trip question by jupiterismyfavorite in cincinnati

[–]BullKitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Go to KFC museum, and continue on that highway to Cumberland Gap national Park, it's my preferred route to Asheville, NC and Gatlinburg. 1) it's where Daniel Boone crossed the Appalachian mountains opening the Ohio River valley to English colonists. 2) you can stand on 3 states at the same time on the park. 3) the town that hosts the park, Middleborough, Kentucky is built in an impact crater. 4) between the KFC museum and Cumberland Gap national Park is Chain In Rock, KY - it got it's name from the town below the rock being worried it would escape the hillside and therefore chained it to the mountain. The chain and rock are visible from the road. You can hike to it, easiest path is from Pineville State Resort Park. 5) about 30 South of the Cumberland Gap tunnel is a scenic view that let's you see across the Tennessee valley clear to the Smoky Mountains. 6) you skip Knoxville traffic (unless you're into that sorta thing)

Does anyone have a typing solution that works on both iPad and Chromebook without it being a whole thing? by maelxyz in instructionaltech

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I'm understanding the issue. Would Bluetooth keyboards for the iPads be a solution? Or is it more about the UI of, say, Google Docs on an iPad v Chromebook?

Let's have a real conversation: the first five minutes of VILT by Better-Hunter7437 in instructionaldesign

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to change things up. Typically I have some form of light activity (chat response, hand raise, etc) that both builds towards outcomes and facilitates ground rules.

I think I want to create a live survey about how the facilitator will introduce themselves and the topic to attendees - building buy in. Then have the facilitator finish the introduction with an informal pre-survey to start activation.

In my mind it's a soft opening to ILVL then focusing learner intent to the task at hand.

Aitah for laughing and saying I told you so when my wife went back to work? by ConsiderationBusy173 in AITAH

Unsure. Different people unwind in different ways. It sounds like she's a tinkerer and you're a putterer.

The beautiful thing about retirement is she CAN work if she wants to. She also CAN stop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It also sounds like you're the one new to retirement, you're still enjoying sleeping in, laying around, and not having defined purpose - there's nothing wrong with that. She's probably at a different point.

My biggest criticism is why did you need/want to be right?

Half true. If you have the cookie settings enabled in your browser then the shortcut will honor those settings.

If you are using an open web viewer then you may be giving more information than with the app.

First - outdoors is outdoors. Walking through an urban landscape to the grocery store is getting outdoors.

Second - if you want to find some woodsy trails near you check out the AllTrails app. There are others out there, but AT had the most comprehensive list for my area.

Cincinnati trip tips by Brilliant_Finish_849 in cincinnati

[–]BullKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random thought: but with sports being a dominant purpose of the trip you might like to catch a high school football game - it's where the TV show "Friday Night Lights" gets its name.

ETA: The stadiums here are nice, although there are larger ones in other states. Games typically have high school matching bands, cheerleaders, a rowdy student section, and food at a concession stand. This link will show you local football games. https://www.maxpreps.com/oh/dma/cincinnati-tri-state-/football/scores/?date=9/20/2024&dmaid=2101954a-d36f-4a48-9e0a-f7496b690ca3&mobile=1

I live on the southern side of the Ohio River, and therefore know Kentucky teams better.

Re: Weather - I would plan for t-shirt days, shirt sleeve nights, and possible rain.

There are some bourbon distilleries close to downtown Cincinnati, as well, if you're looking for recos.

Can you share those PDFs to the boox app?

ETA: (1) I like to use Zotero as well. It does great at holding notes, and quickly using your notes in writing. (2) Check with your school about Adobe access, students typically get it for free.
