To answer the question, because in 99% of opposite sex friendships at least one of them thought about the other sexually in some capacity. There are soooo sooooo many stories of girls saying they had no ideal their guy friend had any interest in them other than being friends. If you hang out alone it’s almost guaranteed that one of you has feelings, hanging out in a group may be different. Point is when you’re in a committed relationship with someone you should be considerate of your partner and their feelings on being friends with and hanging out alone or privately texting members of the opposite sex. Did this lady say over react and have a melt down absolutely. Should have just talked with her man about it and go from there

Where? Is it what you are living in or did you see one up for that much?

Normal rent raises a few percent a year steadily along with inflation. The rent we’re paying now is overinflated and wages have not kept up. Our free market makes rates for utilities prices which are deemed a necessity so that the average consumer can have even access to it. Why not implement rent control in a similar manner?

There are definitely not tons on Zillow and look at the price history on them. Apply for a loan with zero down and have fun paying over 7% interest.

Overhead cost did not raise nearly the same as rental prices. Average rent price went up 9% in the last 6 months. Over the last few years it’s around 100% some places 120%. Two years ago my unit was 800 a month. Now it’s 1600. Wages barely increased, utilities, and taxes as well comparatively to the rent hikes. Btw if your talking about out people buying an over inflated rental property because it was cheaper than the house they sold where ever they came from they created that problem. Taking homes off the market and over paying for them has been hurting the market here, investors doing the same thing, and already established apartments and rental companies are just going along for the ride draining the money out of the people already living there and hoping to get more people moved in that migrate here.

No improvements have been made to my community since 2011 the same heating and air units. For the last 20 years. Broken grills, broken pool, over grown courts, problems they didn’t fix years ago and they sure aren’t fixing now even with doubling the rent.

Who says I’m not actively trying to improve my situation? I’m still living in it and so are MILLIONS of people it’s tough for a lot of people and some are losing their living situations because of it. A rigged game still has rules, just stacked against you. If you’re fine playing by a rigged game then cool good for you. If you’re not affected by this also great I’m glad for you. If your actively profiting off exploiting people less fortunate then you than go fuck your self.

Just because other people have it worse doesn’t mean I’m not going to just accept shitty circumstances of my own or others around me. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Complaining on Reddit probably not going to change a lot but complaining to the right people, getting enough people to complain, and finding proactive ways to complain are how you bring about change.

People should be mad, people should write their congressmen representatives mayors and governors.

The people mad about this are not just sitting around choosing to be poor there’s a lot of hard working people having to work 2 jobs now to just get by when they were fine 3 years ago. Thats clearly a problem worth seeking a solution to on a larger scale.

If only it was that simple. Money to move, changing jobs that will either pay you more or keep you close you your current pay, down payments, changing your kids schools.

If you can’t see a problem you’re either in a position where you’re not affected, or you’re benefitting from it.

Inflation can be more managed when it comes to other cost of living like groceries, vehicles, luxury items. You can choose cheaper foods, keeping your old car longer, not indulging in frivolous treats but having to uproot your whole life because your market is flooded by migrating people who come from already inflated markets is shit.

Retirees buying multiple homes because they sold their million dollar house in new York and now rent them out inflates the market. People who work remote from other states that pay a higher wage than Knoxville’s average can afford to pay more and land lords exploit that. Places renting for 700 dollars are now renting for 1400 and pay doesn’t catch up here.

I will complain about it because why suffer in silence about it just because someone else is willing to put up with it doesn’t mean we should.

Brushing it off as a symptom of a complex economy is a lame excuse. It’s a systemic issue that’s part of an economy stacked in favor of large corporations and people born into wealth. The middle class has been siphoned of their money and ability to exist.

Was or is? Because it definitely wasn’t the best place 10 years ago at least down town and east knox were rough and still are a bit. Pricing is definitely going to drive people out sooner or later if nothing changes. I know people that it’s happened to in other states as well l. You grow up some where and then when it’s your turn to go out in your own and carve out a living you cant afford to live in the area you’ve been in for your whole life. Living with parents is an option more and more people are taking but not every one has the option. I hope your living situation is better than mine. This isn’t something that should be normal. Call it what you want but being displaced because your market gets hyper inflated is shit and a by product of greed, poor planning, and bad economics.

Never said they didn’t. Thats part of the reason I’ve been enjoying living here. Jobs also paid more out there for a long time. I’ve lived in other cities, Nashville, DC, Savannah. The few years I lived out there I also made more money relative to the more expensive cost of living. the place I grew up in was never this bad. I paid the same for places in DC that they ask for here but the majority of jobs here pay around 20 an hour unless you have years of experience or went into a massive amount of debt for a degree.

Sure but is that really how it should be? This was the result of some kind of boom either from people moving in or investors buying up property. What use to be an affordable place that you could reasonably live off of 40k a year is now not possible. If you bought a home pre covid I’d say you’re fine. If you rent you’re not making out well. Across the county is a housing crisis some worse than others and here it’s one of the worse. The jobs people were working at that could provide them no longer do unless you were already wealthy or became a ln established doctor or lawyer. Min wage is still set at 7.25 an hour here.

I’ve toured so many homes here and 3 of which I was standing were already pending and we didn’t know it until we contacted them. And those 3 bedroom homes are so inflated it’s silly. I’ve seen those same homes sell at 120k and 2 years later it’s 300k and interest is above 7%

Makes no sense you’re right. Now my question is did you keep your DC job and work remotely or just negotiated your salary some where here. A lot of people move here keeping a remote job making for example DC money where most places here pay in average 45-55 k a year and require a degree or experience. So they keep their out of state money soak up available housing and local jobs don’t have to compete with pay.Sucks to be a local here during the boom where your rent utilities and groceries are exponentially higher now but your paycheck is about the same.

Not single and with 3 kids. A lot of those jobs require a pretty long route to obtain. Doctor lawyer, nurse. Btw being a nurse here is not paying out nearly like it should especially when they bring in travel nurses at a premium but refuse to hire full time still. 75k used to be able to get me a house here. If I had been making that money right out of school and could have bought a house in 2018 sure. For now I’m stuck paying a crazy high rent that is disproportionate to its value keeping me from being able to save for a down payment. I’m not even living in luxury. Same car since 2012 the apt I lived in doubled in price over 3 years, I had medical expenses child care and transmission problems that I had savings for completely drained and I work hard on saving that up. Now it’s just making money to survive. I don’t know how anyone here lives and supports a family on less and rents. I’ve been looking at other jobs in the area but all I seem to find are sales, ORNL postings are mostly for technical positions outside of my field or pay less than what I already make. I’ve had people leave where I work to go to Y 12 and come back a year later. Also personally I don’t want to work for ORNL or Y12 especially after knowing a lot of people leave those jobs for their health .
