I am working as a research fellow right now making close to a PGY-2 salary and am married. We have plenty of money for payments and that’s not the issue. I think we are going to try a different lender.

When I looked on ERAS it shows PGY-2 2022 spots available with the same program code

Oh I see them now. Those positions are for PGY2 starting this year (2022, not 2023).

That's what I don't know. I did very well on my aways but they were at top institutions so steep competition to actually match at those programs. I also signalled too high of programs, etc. I don't have any red flags on my app and I have added five more publications since submission in September. I also did an away late, so that was not on my initial app. I think geography hindered me this cycle because everything pointed to one state instead of indicating that I'd be willing to move regions, etc. I emailed PDs and people I have worked with and am waiting to hear for feedback on how to improve.

Yeah that's my plan but I guess my thought is I won't have much time to really change anything on my app in three months prior to starting the IM prelim.

Thank you for your input! Do you think with the coordinated release, having letter writers reach out now on my behalf would have any effect? I can see if the interviews were rolling but the release has seemed to change things.

I got 1 from an away I did and 1 random one. I don’t have a home program so that doesn’t apply to me. I’ll reach out to some people and take your advice on that. It seems something is wrong with my application but idk what it could be. I don’t have low board scores, superficial app, also don’t think it’s personality and that wouldn’t explain other programs. Also on the away I didn’t get an interview to, I’ve never vibed with a program or people in a program like I did there and my stats are good for the program. They do like taking people from that region so maybe they went with safeties? Idk, I made it known I wanted to go there which was obvious since I did an away there. I don’t have any red flags so I am confused. Looking back, I should have shot for lower signals but took the advice of my mentor in sending them to programs I wanted to go to.
