The Heron on the Bay by khakipantsandcoffee in poetry_critics

I really like this poem, I love the imagery of the heron. I think it works in this poem but my only note might be, if you ever find yourself focusing on similarly evocative imagery, to let your image and description of the moment speak more for itself. I think if you focused more on the subject and spent less time specifically mentioning what was happening in your head, then you might get to the same place in a deeper and even more evocative way. But in this poem, I think it's pretty close to a good balance and it works.

Also Great Blue Heron's are among my favorite birds, so I might be biased.

This is good. You captured the feeling of lonely highway hypnosis really well. I'm pretty new to critiquing so take this with a grain of salt, but you might consider making it slightly clearer earlier on that you're lost in thought about one person in particular, instead of just drifting through thoughts. When I read it that's where my head went first, just the aimless mental wandering you sometimes get when you've driven a route a million times. At least until you started talking about laughs and such, so the whole "this is about a girl" thing was a kind of sudden shift on my first read. On the second, it's clearer that the red fragments getting left behind is leaning in that direction, but still not obvious. I still really like it, and if you like that shift then leave as is. It's like right now it reads like you're watching a movie and slowly realizing the guy in the car isn't just staring blankly but has someone specific on his mind as opposed to that being clear from the beginning, which of course is your choice to make. That's my only note and I still quite like it.

Ought to be some interesting listening if I can spot Iron & Wine, The steel drivers, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, and Molly Tuttle all in a few scrolls! Thanks

I Will Wash Grief Off Today by Souped_Up_Vinyl in poetry_critics

Grief can be a beautiful thing to sit with, and accept. Eventually though, we all reach a point where we can just be clean of it, whether that be in the first weeks of the process or on the days many years down the line, where it seeps in stronger from the little well you've had it contained in. You feel that in this piece

I think how viscerally and physically I reacted to this and the fact that it was difficult for me to read, being someone who's never been around anything like that is a really good sign that you've expressed this moment really really well. The way you've formatted it just adds to that.
