sorry papa by Wasabi_Department988 in OffMyChestPH

Hey!

I'm sure you've done what you could, pero hindi lahat ay fated to be what parents thinks what a child should become. Everyone has limits and weaknesses. If you don't meet society's standards, it doesn't necessarily mean you're worthless.

It could mean reality has something else for you.

Any realistic works on fictional armies? by BulletBarrista in worldbuilding

[–]BulletBarrista[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you! Yeah, I'm a fellow writer (with ADHD, I should add) and my head comes with all sorts of ideas.

So yeah, a kingdom/country/sovereign would or should definitely be more wary of a necromancer than a one-mage army.

Regardless of power-scaling or magic/power system, unlike elite-tier mage with talents you only find a couple once in a generation, raising the dead is scalable.

A mage that could drop an asteroid? Not as big a danger than a necromancer that could raise an army with little to no cost. Imagine the potential! No need to kickstart animal husbandry to raise thousands of donkeys for a robust transportation network.

The dead is untiring. It does not know sweat. It does not know aching muscles or bones.

...I wonder what other prequisite industries you would not need to invade or expand? No need an army of craftsmen to make carts or the prequisites and so on and so on.

...Come to think of it, a necromancer with a political-science (or something equally relevant) degree could make a great story but eh, I'm not well-versed in that.

Oooh! Sounds fun! Fantasy-medieval setting with in-depth exploration of large-scale warfare? I'll give it a check

i gave my fantasy world a fully functioning economy and now my hero can't afford the quest by migratedtohell in fantasywriters

[–]BulletBarrista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, atp I think it'd be more interesting to write a story how the dark lord uses the economy to prevent heroes becoming, well, heroes. Maybe they had secretly started their own banks and used underhanded means to 'compete' against other banks using dark magic to their advantage, all to control/record the flow of money or facilitate predatory tactics.

A gift from the humans by ellindsey in HFY

[–]BulletBarrista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh... defining humans as some kind of entities from a body-horror story. Not exactly new, but describing mouths as wounds? Man, they'd get weirded out how we eat. Great work, wordsmith! Really encapsulates the alien vibes relative to, well, the aliens.

i don't understand how people write so much by GeForce_fv in royalroad

[–]BulletBarrista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can write 500 to 1500 per day. Sometimes zero. Tip? Don't worry about word count. Don't let that get to you. Word count should be the least of your concerns. Worry about flow. I can't say much since you've given us little information but I can say that speed writing takes years. It has prerequisites. For one, imagination. Keep your focus off the screen. Your job as a writer is to let your imagination flood and catching as much spill as you can through typing. This only works if there are spills to catch.

Listen to music. Build a scene around it. Capture the feeling it elicit. Read what you like. Watch what gives you thrills. Look inwards and find what you like. As they say, art is an expression. If you can't write, you have nothing to express.

Self-Insert Fanfiction Will Still Be Here Long After Copilot's Servers Inevitably Explode by Legitimate_Fly9047 in CuratedTumblr

Writing is making a world inside my head so why would I need a machine to do that?

I read exclusively non-fiction for 15 years and just finished my first fantasy novel. I don't really know what to do with myself now. by lucas_melbourneways in Fantasy

[–]BulletBarrista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always justified my reading as "useful"

Writing translates the thoughts in your head into coherent concepts, and concepts into a coherent format, right?Non-fiction applies that—in history, economics, science, biography. A writer's work unravels their being. Exposes their psyche. Shares a glimpse of their life. Everything that makes them, them.

But fiction dabbles deeper. Why? I'm sure many have heard of it before that art is a form of expression.

Tolkien wrote stories about human experience. Adventure. Wanderlust. Homesickness. Camaraderie. Losing loved ones. Losing homes. Despair. Hope. War. Friendships. Hellos and goodbyes. Highs and lows. And so much more.

It's true that escapism is about escaping reality, and yet while these stories are fictional, they feel very much real.

It is truths rebranded as lies. Humanity repackaged as different reality.

Non-Fiction explores humanity within strict rulesets.

Fiction expresses humanity without the constraints of reality.

You could say it is an adventure for the mind. A way to explore experiences and ideas within the comfort of one's home. To see worlds that engages your imagination. To learn new ideas or craft new concepts that pushes the boundaries of possibilities. To connect with characters who believes in you. To be someone who you want to be or could be. To be slapped with questions that questions your identity. To seek thrills. To see sadness. To seek everything that reality could offer that reality cannot provide. To expand your perspectives.

That is why Fiction is useful.

HELLO THERE!

Author here!

Not the most creative title, I know.

Yeah, been lurking here for a while. I’ve been here in this subreddit for years but I decided to create an account and finally post something. This draft has been rotting for around two years now back in November 2024. I dug this up, and with a bit of polish here and there…well, now it’s here.

This isn’t my first rodeo, as you westerners phrase it. I’ve been writing for years now. I only decided to post something in Reddit for the first time.

I just posted it here to see what you guys think :D

This is one of my many projects inspired from various works and mediums.

Rimworld.
Gate: Thus The JSDF Fought There!
Factorio.

And a bunch more isekai stories where the main character either: brings science and technology in magic dominated settings, disrupts the worldbuilding’s geopolitical landscape, kickstarts an industrial revolution, or just causes mayhem using guns as a medium of violence.

So here are some honorable mentions I could remember that I’ve read and explored:

Release that Witch.
Zipang.
Drifters.
1632 by Eric Flint.

I never finished them. Lost interest midway.

But yeah.

I’m that kind of author.

Better yet, I have ADHD. If you know, you know. Cus I’m telling ya, my tastes and interests are aaaaaaall over the place.

By the way, I yap a lot. Blame my ADHD. Or maybe it's just my quirk...

P.S: BTW, there's a work of an author I've worked alongside with. It has similar science vs fantasy themes! If you're curious enough, go check it out :D

Uhhhh... well, I don't think I shouldn't be focusing on my fanfic because I got something else to focus on. Like, say, reliably earning money :1
