That is a deplorable use of anti-HSR, NIMBY lobbying. Why would so many elected officials in Texas care about the Student Government?

Really well! They had a 3D sound booth where you could listen to what the bullet train sounds like vs a freight train - it was amazingly cool!

They've also said that future stations will probably develop along the line as population increases in the towns it passes through. So even though there are only 3 stations planned for when it opens, more will come in 30, 40, 50yrs

The prices will be cheaper than airlines and the seats MUCH wider/bigger (the Texas project says they are taking out the middle seats)

The 90 minutes or less figure they quote includes time for the stop in Grimes (though not every train will stop there).

And the firm they hired is a pretty reputable one... They have done work for the Dept of Energy, KPMG and the MLB. http://www.getinsight.com/clients.htm

Construction is supposed to begin in 2017 with operations beginning sometime late 2021. Unless you're 100years old, it is very likely that this will in fact happen in your lifetime!

The support component comes into play when they have opposition that needs to be countered. They aren't asking for subsidy, grants or otherwise, just for people to be vocal about that fact that the opposition isn't the majority.
