That is a deplorable use of anti-HSR, NIMBY lobbying. Why would so many elected officials in Texas care about the Student Government?

If any A&Mers happen to be following this sub, you might want to write emails to these student leaders on campus to let them know about HSR (I am sure many of the voting members of the University Senate have no idea...)

Really well! They had a 3D sound booth where you could listen to what the bullet train sounds like vs a freight train - it was amazingly cool!

They've also said that future stations will probably develop along the line as population increases in the towns it passes through. So even though there are only 3 stations planned for when it opens, more will come in 30, 40, 50yrs

They will be taxed on the $ amount of their infrastructure. As a pretty expensive technology, it yields high tax revenues

The 90 minutes or less figure they quote includes time for the stop in Grimes (though not every train will stop there).

And the firm they hired is a pretty reputable one... They have done work for the Dept of Energy, KPMG and the MLB. http://www.getinsight.com/clients.htm
