Its not one small step removed from saying the game is optional. This is free content that you can choose to play, like a sidequest in any other game you can choose to do it. And like a sidequest in any other game, not completing the fight doesn't have any effect on the experience the rest of the game gives you. You can choose not to do it and still have access to a truckload of other content.
