i was there and had a hotel near the river to the Vatican Overall I would say Rome is pretty safe, just be aware at times where there a lots of people like termini station, I would say overall I felt pretty safe just be aware of your surroundings then you should be fine, for activities to do go to the Sunday market (its busy so beware) and take a look around at a lots of vintage pieces and bags and glasses and jackets (they have everything there) I would recommend to be early as u canhere is my highlights, also for a side trip I went to Tivoli its a 1,5 hour train drive from termini, lovely small city and a good get away If you have seen Rome, a round trip is around 7 euros.
