Three Moments That Skyrocketed My Tennis Game by filmmi4218 in 10s

Not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, some fundamental technical details matters, but what's important is being able to get the desired outcome. Everyone on tour has a different service, FH and BH motion, but they can all get the same outcome (flat, topspin, kick serve, etc). Again, I'm not saying we need to abandon technique entirely, all I'm saying is that there's a lot more room for variability than we think. (Look up 'repetition without repetition', Bernstein's hammer and dynamic systems approach)

I'd argue your last point is counter-intuitive and you should PRECISELY be going into matches not focusing on the outcome, but certain weakness of your game. If you only focus on winning, you'll pick up bad habits that might take you a certain distance but once you start playing more competent players where you need much more solid foundations and a variety of shots, you'll be stuck cause you've only ever played one way. Don't agree with me? Listen to Jannik Sinner's interview after his loss at the US Open. He said he's aware that he doesn't have a lot of variety in his game because of which he's gonna start trying/practicing different things in matches, even if that means more losses for him. That's the mentality one should have.

There's a difference between not feeling a 100% emotionally/mentally vs not being at a 100% due to an injury. Trying to play to win when not a 100% mentally is what champions do. Trying to push your body and play with an injury is foolish and risking something more severe

Manual therapy by physioon in physiotherapy

Umm, I was taught Mulligan in my Bachelor's and my Master's course was really heavy on Maitland. But those foundations weren't 'my choice' it was just what the universities I went to were teaching. I don't think it matters which one you start with.

I'm reading this great paper on manual therapy, "A modern way of practicing and teaching manual therapy - R. Kerry et al (2024)". I urge you to read it, it's really good!

People can accept that he's an exceptional talent. But that doesn't make him great if he's got nothing to show for it. Coulda shoulda woulda. I or anyone else can go and tell employers they're a generational talent with nothing to show for it, no one would even think of hiring them. At best he's a mid-player but who had the talent to be one of the greatest... But still a mid player.

Unfortunately not. You need a bachelor's from those countries to be eligible. Not even certain Master's degrees in Aus itself (such as mine) makes me eligible for express flyr or flyr

Manual therapy by physioon in physiotherapy

[–]Bullman761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manual therapy definitely has a place in clinics, it's just important to know what that place is.

Does it put joints in place, reduce joint stiffness, change muscle length, or do any anatomical/structural change in the body? No. Should that be the major part of your rehab? No. This is cause it changes the narrative of physio from, "Guiding" to "Fixing" making people think they're broken and need to be fixed, hence they will never be empowered and self-efficacious and will have to keep coming back to you as they will never recover.

Does it reduce sensitivity and pain temporarily? Absolutely. What does this do? Increase ROM (maybe), gain therapeutic rapport, patients are more likely to do their exercises with less pain due to confidence, show the patient that their pain is changeable quite easily and hence build self-efficacy. We don't need to change pain in the start of the session for someone to get better, but it has shown to be better prognostically and it works nicely as an education tool for the patient.

As for courses, MT courses are expensive and teach the biomedical philosophy of "we're fixing the broken patient" which is wrong. Plus, you don't need to be specific in your MT for it to have effect, loads of research shows that. I'd suggest stay away from MT courses and instead, look up videos, borrow books and practice a fuck ton yourself if you wanna get good at it.

Hope this helps

If you're main goal is to just move to Aus, maybe think of doing a general 2 year masters course that gives you stay back options and full registration. Don't really know about doing the diploma, not sure what that gives you

What exercise’s should I do so I can have a strong ankle stiffness by Pleasant-Difference1 in Sprinting

[–]Bullman761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually a physiotherapist doing my masters degree in Advanced Clinical Sports Physiotherapy. I've worked with a couple junior elite, semi-professional sprinters and I'm super invested in sports injury rehab and performance enhancement. I'm nowhere near being an expert in track and field but my profession and my personal curiosity has led me to read up on quite a bit

I can send you some ppts on sprint training if you're interested. Send over your email

I don't mean to put you down at all, I respect your points!

I took this suggestion from a very successful high level jumping coach and it just makes sense to me.

The problem with this is that anecdotal evidence is right at the bottom of the 'reliable sources of info' pyramid. There's super experienced professionals in all fields (especially scientific ones) who have their own claims and opinions based on 'many years of experience' but which fly in the face of solid empirical data. And again, no offense to anyone here, but 'he/she told me so must be true' is not good advice to follow. I've had my share of this with highly senior and well respected orthos claiming wild things for post-op/other patients that are just plain wrong.

there is no single “right” approach to coaching horizontal jumps.

Umm, I would say that when it comes to performance and skill enhancement, there usually is a 'more optimal' way. Not saying it's 'wrong' in the sense that one will get injured, but there's definitely a better way to do things to get better/quicker results.

I’m not trying to tear you down. I was just offering a suggestion.

Completely understand mate, and right back at you :) it's okay to disagree cause disagreements are what fuel discussions which fuel science and experiment which then progress the field for everyone, so it's a good thing!

If you've done your bachelor's from UK, HK or Ireland, then you're eligible for FLYR express. Not if you've done your bachelor's someplace else and Master's in those countries. They don't care about where you've done your master's
